We were able to capture a few candid shots at the first portage of the Memorial Day Boat Race. There were 60 teams and another 11 Kayaks that participated. The competition was fierce and it was well attended by spectators. Great job and hats off to all of the participants.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Memorial Day is more than the start of summer it’s a reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of those who gave everything so we could live freely.

As we spend time with family and friends this weekend, may we also take a moment to reflect on the heroes who never made it home. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

🇺🇸 We remember. We honor. We are forever grateful. 🇺🇸

It is with a deep heavy heart that we make this post. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of the Boston Fire Department and the family of the firefighter who tragically lost his life in the line of duty last evening while battling a fire in a three-family home in Dorchester.

This heartbreaking loss is a solemn reminder of the dangers firefighters face every time they answer the call to protect others. May we never forget the courage, sacrifice, and dedication shown by this firefighter and all first responders who put themselves in harm’s way for their communities.

Please keep his family, friends, and fellow firefighters in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, brother. We’ll take it from here.

Danielle McGonagle Cody is with Rochester Fire Department and Rochester Golf Club Rochester Police Department, MA

On Sunday, May 10th, my family experienced every person’s worst nightmare. While playing golf at the Rochester course, my father went into cardiac arrest. Many of you may have seen the news on social media, but I wanted to share the full story because it is a beautiful, rare testament to the power of quick thinking, community, and the compassion of strangers and friends alike.
My dad was out on the 3rd hole, quite far from the parking lot, when he suddenly slumped over in the golf cart. His three friends acted with incredible courage and clarity. They called 911 immediately and began CPR right there in the cart while driving him back toward the parking lot. That decision to move him toward help, while keeping his heart going, was the first link in a chain that saved his life.
In the parking lot, the compassion of our community truly shone. A gentleman at the first hole—a fellow medical professional—saw the emergency and ran to help. He provided what EMS described as the highest quality pre-hospital CPR they had ever seen. The ambulance arrived within three minutes of receiving the call. Because my dad was already in the parking lot, the EMS crew was able to continue CPR using the Lucas device and defibrillate immediately.
By the time he reached Tobey Hospital, he was awake and speaking—a result that is nothing short of miraculous. Statistically, the odds were against him, but the immediate action of those around him changed everything. He was flown to Boston and is currently sitting up and talking to us, showing no neurological deficits.
I have received the names of the four gentlemen who first stepped in, and I plan to thank them personally for giving me back my father.
To our Fire Department and first responders: Thank you as well. The crew on duty included two of the finest medics I’ve ever had the honor of working beside. Dave Z. was my EMS partner a lifetime ago; I never could have imagined he would be the one in the right place at the right time to save my dad. And to Captain Richard: thank you for your skill, your leadership, and for ensuring our department has the equipment necessary to achieve outcomes like this. Thank you also to Chief Weigel, Deputy Chief Eldridge, RPD, and everyone else involved in his care.
My family and I are eternally grateful. We are overwhelmed by the skill and heart shown by first responders and everyone on that course.
On a lighter note, if you’re looking for a place to play golf, head to Rochester—it’s clearly the safest course around!

This morning, at approximately 0830 hours, the Rochester Fire Department received a 911 call from the Regional Old Colony Communications Center, reporting a golfer at the Rochester Golf Club who was unconscious and not breathing. CPR was reportedly being performed. Within three minutes of being dispatched, Rescue 210 and Engine 193 arrived on the scene, coinciding with the arrival of the Rochester Police Department, MA. EMTs, paramedics, and police officers began treating and evaluating the golfer. Bystanders reported that the golfer had collapsed at a hole to the rear of the course and was transported in a golf cart to the parking lot, where CPR continued to be administered. Utilizing the Lifepak 15 Cardiac Monitor and the Lucas automated CPR device, first responders quickly assessed the patient and administered several shocks, along with high-quality CPR and rescue breaths. The patient was rapidly transferred to the ambulance and transported to Tobey Hospital. During transport, Advanced Cardiac Life Support was performed, and shortly before arrival at Tobey Hospital, the patient regained consciousness and was able to communicate with responders. Although these signs were encouraging, the patient remained critically ill. Consequently, the patient was transferred by Boston Medflight Helicopter from Tobey Hospital to a Boston hospital for further definitive care and treatment. The return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) is not always achieved in cases like this. A major contributing factor to the successful outcome today was the immediate and high-quality CPR the patient received by bystanders, which continued until responders arrived on the scene. Early recognition of a medical emergency, early CPR and early defibrillation saves lives. Everyone should take a CPR class, you may contact your local Fire or Police departments. Early CPR Saves Lives.

The men and women of the Rochester Fire Department mourn the tragic loss of Massachusetts State Police Trooper Kevin Trainor, who was killed in the line of duty early this morning while courageously attempting to stop a wrong-way driver. At just 30 years old, Trooper Trainor made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the people of the Commonwealth.

Every day, law enforcement officers put themselves in harm’s way to protect complete strangers, never knowing what the next call may bring. Trooper Trainor answered that call with bravery, professionalism, and selflessness. His split second actions saved lives.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Trooper Trainor’s family, friends, fellow Troopers, and the entire Massachusetts State Police community during this incredibly difficult time.

Please keep all affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.

Rest easy, Trooper Trainor. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Massachusetts State Police🇺🇸💙
