A great reminder! Rechargeable batteries can be brought to the Olmsted County Hazardous Waste Facility for safe disposal. Learn more at https://bit.ly/3m5OnrV.

Batteries for tools, such as drills, saws or lawn equipment require specialized handling for proper recycling. Please remember that neither your curbside recycling bin, nor your trash can, is the appropriate place for dead batteries.

Household hazardous waste facilities, electronics recyclers and even big-box stores such as Lowe’s/Home Depot often accept batteries for proper disposal/recycling. Please start with one of those facilities first and thank you for taking extra care with these items!

It's camping season again! With Memorial Day just around the corner, it's the perfect time to enjoy some of Olmsted County's beautiful parks. As you head outdoors, here are a few easy ways to camp responsibly and keep our parks clean:

- Choose reusable items instead of single-use plastics when cooking outdoors. If you use paper plates or plastic cutlery, be sure to throw them in the garbage.

- Recyclables should never be bagged. If you collect them in a bag while camping, remember to take them out before placing them in a recycling cart.

- Never burn paper plates, plastic, or other garbage.

- Don't litter! Leave nature better than you found it.

Grab your shovels! A recently screened pile of compost has been added near the bunker on the south side of the Olmsted County Compost Site.

Great for enhancing growth in flowerbeds, gardens, and lawns, compost can be self-loaded any day of the week during daylight hours.

There is no fee; however, donation boxes are available on-site for residents who wish to support the Compost Site's daily operations (not funded by property taxes).

Pictured here, Jonah, Kelly, and Emilia from Rochester were all smiles as they grabbed a trunk-load of compost for some upcoming projects!

We had another successful Fix-It Clinic at the EarthFest Expo on Saturday! A big thank you to all of our volunteers and everyone who stopped by to get their items fixed.

We had 70 items brought in and our volunteers were able to get almost 60 of them fixed—including 2 kitchen mixers, a lamp, a drone, and lots of pants and shirts!
