That’s a wrap on our SIM week. He had an amazing time training with our new monitors! Our providers were able to practice cardiac arrest scenarios, managing arrhythmias like SVT and third degree heart block, as well as our basic EMTs training with the AED mode. We continue to value all our providers commitment to learning and advancing their care. A huge thank you and shout out to our SIM team who have been working diligently on making these scenarios not only instructive but fun as well. And one last thank you to for hosting us. See you next quarter Hal!

This week highlights our quarterly SIM, which is clinical based training focusing on improving skills, refining clinical judgement, and keeping up to date with recent protocols. This week our training is geared towards the use of our new Zoll Zenix monitors. Having continuous training on our equipment overall improves our patient care. We are lucky to have many resources to our disposal such as ”Hal”, an advanced mannequin that providers our crews with palpating pulses, listening to breath sounds, and has the ability to have an administered shock from an AED. Our SIM team creates each scenario to run through and has so much fun setting up, acting, and debriefing for our crews. A special thanks to for allowing us into your firehouse as a wonderful host to us this week!

This past Friday, members of our team attended the Mercy Flight Central Spring Conference. The keynote speaker, Michael Vella MD, spoke about "Blood, Sweat and the Evolution of EMS: Paving the Way for Whole Blood" highlighting the necessity, potential ability, and the importance of access to prehospital administration of whole blood. Next in the lineup was Maia Dorsett MD, Andrew Perez CCEMTP, and David Donovan NREMTP, speaking on "Mistakes, Near Misses, and What We Learned". During the next section of the conference our members broke out into smaller groups listening to speakers on legal processes, neurodegenerative disorders, SALAD lab, medication administration for atrial fibrillation, pediatric trauma pitfalls, managing tracheostomy's, managing pre-eclampsia, and many more. We want to thank Mercy Flight Central for having us and putting on some great speakers. It was a day full of learning, and we cannot wait to attend next years!
