The City of Rochester, NY recently earned a 3-Star designation through the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) Clean Energy Communities (CEC) Program. In doing so, the city also earned $300,000 in match-free grant funding to assist with future Clean Energy Initiatives.

To earn this Designation, the city installed 6 Level 2 EV Charging Ports at the South Street Garage. Increasing the number of charging stations in your community is a key opportunity to promote cleaner vehicles. Charging stations are being installed at a wide variety of locations across New York State. In addition, local government can lead by example by deploying light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in their municipal fleets. A wide range of rebates and incentives are available to reduce the cost of electric vehicles and infrastructure. The installation of additional charging stations across the city earned the community 400 points.

Those points pushed the city over the 5,000 Point threshold, making them just the fifth community in our region to achieve a 3-Star Designation. The recognition came with $200,000 in match-free funding, however because the city is a NYSERDA Disadvantaged Community, that award came with a 50% bonus of $100,000 making the total award $300,000.

The city plans to use the grant to convert Decorative Fixtures to LED across the community.

Congratulations to the City of Rochester!

The Town of Manchester recently earned a 1-Star designation through the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) Clean Energy Communities (CEC) Program. In doing so, the Town also earned $10,000 in match-free grant funding to assist with future Clean Energy Initiatives.

To earn the 1,000 points needed for its 1-Star Designation, the Town completed three High-Impact Actions (HIA): Energy Code Enforcement Training (200 Points), an LED Streetlight Conversion (700 Points), and a Municipal Clean Fleets Inventory (200 Points). That recognition also came with a $10,000 match-free grant award.

Municipalities have a wide range of vehicles across their fleet, varying from light-duty cars (e.g., police cruisers and inspection vehicles) to medium and heavy-duty (box trucks and shuttles). Through this action, municipalities can plan their transition to electric vehicles thoughtfully and efficiently by starting with an inventory of all fleet vehicles.

The Town plans to use the $10,000 grant award to purchase Electric Landscaping Equipment to maintain community Parks & Green Spaces.

Congratulations to the Town of Manchester!
