Thank you, Olmsted-Rochester Law Enforcement K-9 Foundation!

Today, the Olmsted-Rochester K9 Foundation was proud to present a $15,000 check to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office to help cover medical expenses for K9 Athena.

Athena has dedicated herself to serving our community alongside her handler, Deputy Kaine Kaase, and we are honored to be able to support her when she needs it most.

Support from our donors, community members, and fundraising events makes it possible for the Foundation to step in and help with expenses like Athena’s medical care. This is exactly why we do what we do.

Congratulations to Luke Wrubel, the newest Olmsted County Sheriff's Office Captain for the Adult Detention Center. He serves as Operations Captain and began his new role following Captain Tesmer's retirement.

Captain Wrubel, who joined the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office in 2008, served as the Adult Detention Center Training Sergeant before his promotion.

Sheriff's Office Media Brief - August 31, 2026

◾Accident With Injuries: On August 29, 2026, at approximately 7:25 a.m., Olmsted County deputies responded to an accident with injuries in the 3400 block of Chester Road Southeast in Marion Township. The accident involved a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle (ATV) that rolled into a ditch. The single occupant, a 40-year-old male, was located ejected from the ATV and was deceased. The events surrounding the accident are still under investigation, and we cannot release further information.

A sweet tradition continued! Our Adult Detention Center staff once again served root beer floats at the Government Center, bringing people together while raising funds to help celebrate Correctional Officers Week next spring while also supporting the Channel One Food Bank.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, enjoyed a float, and helped make the event a success!

The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office features five individuals with outstanding warrants each week to raise awareness and gather information on their locations. To settle these warrants, the listed individuals must appear in court before a judge. Turning themselves in is the best course of action. This post highlights individuals wanted as of August 26, 2026. If you view it any time after that date, the warrant listed in the post could be settled.

All the individuals featured have arrest warrants, and charges vary in severity. Remember, these warrants are issued by judges after an individual fails to appear for a court date or fails to comply with a court order. As the Sheriff's Office, we are the arm of the court responsible for warrant service.

Back to school means yellow buses, extra morning traffic and busier neighborhood streets. When you're racing against the clock to drop off the kids and make it to your morning meeting, it's easy to let speed sneak up on you. Remember, a little preparation goes a long way toward keeping everyone safe.

The "5 mph" myth: On an average 10-mile city commute, speeding 5 to 10 mph over the limit only saves you about 60 to 90 seconds. That extra minute isn’t worth a ticket or possible crash.

School bus safety zone: Flashing yellow lights mean the bus is preparing to stop; flashing red lights mean stop immediately. Motorists must stop at least 20 feet from a school bus that is displaying flashing red lights, regardless of whether the stop arm has been extended, when approaching from the rear and from the opposite direction on undivided roads. In Minnesota, passing a bus with flashing red lights carries a minimum $500 fine.

Outsmart the Rush: Pre-Trip Hacks for a Stress-Free Morning
• Prep night before: Outfit picks, lunch packing and backpack hunts are best handled before bed, not at 7:15 a.m.
• Know your route: Construction and adjusted school zones can pop up overnight – check your GPS before turning the key.
• Pad your schedule: Leaving 5 to 10 minutes earlier eliminates the panic when getting slowed down by unexpected red lights or traffic.

Planning ahead allows drivers to slow down, put distractions away – and stay focused on the road. Together, we can drive Minnesota toward zero deaths.
