Laying of the flowers at the Rochester Cemetery was a tradition started by James Wright in 1867. James Wright is known as "The Father of Decoration Day" in Rochester. Boys and Girls of Rochester would search the woods for wildflowers and make wreaths for each soldier's grave.
Today, some of the most giving and amazing people of Rochester come together to make sure bouquets are laid graveside every year.
