The Rochester Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of retired Motor Operator Edward “ED” Capek who passed away on April 10th. Captain Capek served the City of Rochester from May of 1989 to may of 2009. We wish his family and friends well during this difficult loss.

A celebration of Ed’s life has been scheduled to take place on May 23rd from 2pm until 5pm at the North Star Bar 503 Broadway Avenue North in Rochester.

“This job changes your life. The schedule, the method of approaching life in general. You won’t hear firefighters talking about why something can’t be done, but how it will be done” -Ed Capek

We greatly appreciate the sacrifice Ed and his family made over the 20 years he served the citizens of Rochester.

With last week's tornado activity in our area, Rochester Emergency Management would like to remind everyone of the three weather conditions that could cause the outdoor warning sirens to activate. Tornadoes are considered highly improbable today by the National Weather Service, but there is higher potential for damaging hail and winds this evening. If you hear a siren, go indoors. Everyone should monitor trusted forecasting services. And make sure weather alerts are turned on in your phone's settings!
