Suspect Taken Into Custody Following Shooting Incident in Fulton County
Fulton County, Indiana — The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office is providing an update regarding an incident that occurred during the early morning hours of August 13, 2026, in the area of McCarty Lane and Olson Road, Rochester, Indiana.
At approximately 5:50 a.m., Fulton County 911 received a report of a shooting at a residence in the 4300 block of McCarty Lane. The initial caller reported hearing an argument followed by multiple gunshots.
Deputies from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Rochester Police Department, responded to the area. The preliminary investigation determined that an altercation had occurred between two males.
During the altercation, Christian Sanderson, 25, allegedly produced a handgun and pointed it at another male. As the other male attempted to disarm or deflect the firearm, the weapon discharged. The two became involved in a physical altercation. Sanderson subsequently fled the area on foot and allegedly fired additional rounds as he ran toward the roadway.
The other male sustained apparent injuries from the physical altercation and was evaluated by medical personnel. There were no reported gunshot injuries.
Due to the circumstances of the incident and information indicating Sanderson was armed, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office issued a shelter-in-place advisory for residents in and around the McCarty Lane and Olson Road area while law enforcement conducted an extensive search.
Sanderson was subsequently located and taken into custody without further incident. The shelter-in-place advisory has been lifted.
Sanderson is being held pending the filing and review of criminal charges. The investigation remains active, and additional charges may be considered as the investigation continues. All charges are allegations, and Sanderson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff Travis Heishman stated:
“I want to thank all of the neighboring agencies and our public safety partners who immediately responded and provided personnel and specialized resources to assist our deputies. Incidents like this demonstrate the importance of agencies working together, and the response we received today was outstanding. 🚨 SCAM ALERT – Rental Property Fraud 🚨
The Fulton County Sheriff's Office wants to make residents aware of a rental scam that has recently been circulating on social media.
Scammers are posting homes for rent that they do not own and have no legal authority to rent. The properties may appear legitimate, often using photos and information copied from real real estate listings.
When interested renters contact the "landlord," they are told they must pay an application fee or holding fee—often in the form of a gift card, prepaid debit card, or other difficult-to-trace payment method. Once the payment is sent, the scammer disappears, and the home is never available to rent.
Protect Yourself:
🏠 Be suspicious of rental prices that seem too good to be true.
🔍 Verify that the person advertising the property actually owns or manages it.
👀 Never rent a property without seeing it in person or through a verified property management company.
💳 Never pay an application fee or deposit using gift cards, cryptocurrency, or other non-traceable payment methods. Legitimate landlords will not request payment this way.
📞 If the person pressures you to send money immediately or claims they're unable to meet because they're "out of town," it's likely a scam.
📝 Research the property's address online to see if it is listed for sale or by another rental company.
If you believe you've encountered a fraudulent rental listing, do not send any money. Report the listing to the social media platform.
If you have any questions or believe you may have been targeted by this scam, please contact the Fulton County Sheriff's Office or your local law enforcement agency.
Please share this post to help protect your family, friends, and neighbors from becoming victims of this scam.

A good reminder as our local schools start back up.

Hard to believe it folks but, here we are! School has already begun for some districts in Indiana and TSC, LSC, and WLSC all return to school this Thursday, August 6. Buses will be out picking up their precious cargo early Thursday morning for the first day of school. Our children are our future and they are irreplaceable. Please be patient with the drivers and adjust your morning routine if you don't want to get stuck behind a bus. Below is a reminder of the Indiana laws and penalties regarding stop arms. Don't forget, if the median is paved and drivable, you MUST stop! Wishing all of our students and teachers a safe and happy school year!
