Our Community of Agencies is in every way rooted in Rochester and its surrounding communities. The full offering of services we make possible has helped children and adults with special needs to realize a better standard of living for over half a century. Founded in 1962 with one "dream home" on Elmwood Avenue, the Al Sigl Community has grown to encompass six campuses. Today we are proud to serve

a dynamic group of key care and rehabilitative channels in communities throughout Monroe County. Everything we do stands on the idea that the combined power of many generates greater power together.

The amazing flavors at Fine Tastings are always memorable, but today we remember a story we first shared at last year’s event.

When Mila was 18 months old, she experienced the loss of a milestone ¬ her speech. “When your child doesn’t call you Mom anymore, it’s heartbreaking,” said Mila’s mom, Kerry.

At Rochester Hearing & Speech Center, Mila was able to receive Occupational and Speech Therapy and also Special Education services – all at one location. “Slowly,” said Kerry, “We saw improvement. Ultimately, they gave me my kid back.”

Funds raised through Al Sigl events, like Fine Tastings, stay local and benefit local families, like Mila’s. Each ticket purchased is more than a celebration with friends. Each ticket helps support our mission of helping children and adults with special needs have access to vital Al Sigl Member Agency programs and be more fully included in our community.

Get your tickets today at alsigl.org/tastings or share this post to help spread the word about Al Sigl’s collaborative mission.

Earlier this week, we reflected on the second anniversary of the opening of our LiveAbility Lab project exhibition space at our Golisano Campus at Elmwood. Today, we’re excited to celebrate some of our newest project collaborations!

Each year, Al Sigl Member Agency staff and the people they support identify real-world challenges and opportunities for Studio930 project teams at the Rochester Institute of Technology to explore. This summer’s projects have been especially exciting, and we’re looking forward to seeing the creative solutions developed by these talented design teams, including the pushcart design featured in the story below, come to life in our program spaces.

Rochester Institute of Technology students designed accessible health care solutions for children and adults with special needs during an internship.

We are pleased to see this initiative continuing to grow! Move To Include has its roots in our ongoing partnership with WXXI and the Golisano Foundation. What started in 1995 as a lecture series became Al Sigl’s annual week-long programming series, Dialogue on Disability. In 2014, with generous support from the Golisano Foundation, the project became a year-round programming effort, Move To Include, reaching over 1 million people annually. In 2020, the effort expanded once again to include several additional public media stations across the U.S.

True inclusion in public media requires moving beyond outdated tropes to embrace the principle of "Nothing About Us Without Us." GPB Staff recently took part in a recent Move to Include workshop in Rochester, NY. Let's take a look at the practical lessons we are bringing back to make our station mor...

🎉 This month marks the second anniversary of the opening of the LiveAbility Lab exhibition space on our Golisano Campus at Elmwood!

For more than 10 years, Al Sigl has brought together people of all ages and abilities served across our six campuses with interdisciplinary teams from area colleges and community volunteers. Together, they collaborate to develop creative solutions to real-world accessibility and assistive technology challenges.

The LiveAbility Lab exhibition showcases a variety of projects in progress and, most importantly, highlights the people served by Al Sigl Member Agencies as the heart of this collaboration. They help shape each project by submitting ideas, providing feedback to refine designs, and testing prototypes.

Over the past two years, we’ve seen so much incredible work come to life, and we are deeply grateful for the passionate and talented partners who continue to grow this collaboration.

Together, we’re advancing the mission of the LiveAbility Lab and creating innovative solutions that can make a lasting impact in our community. 💙
