President Román has now responded regarding the State Commission of Correction’s report and the Legislature’s responsibility to review PrimeCare’s fitness.

Her response confirms that she received the report months ago, became aware of the State’s directive, and that no legislative inquiry was initiated during that time. For months, members of the Legislature, and the public, were left uninformed while that inquiry remained outstanding.

The Legislature has both the authority and the responsibility to move forward with a bipartisan inquiry, answer the remaining questions, and ensure the State’s directive is properly carried out.

A man died in Monroe County custody. The State found his death was preventable and directed the County Legislature, through its President, to investigate the fitness of the jail’s medical provider.

That directive was not carried out, and members of the Legislature were never informed that it existed. Meanwhile, PrimeCare’s contract was renewed for another year at a cost of up to $13.6 million.

Today, the Republican Conference is demanding answers from Legislature President Yversha Román. The people of Monroe County and members of this Honorable Body deserve to know why the State’s directive went unaddressed.

Last night, the Republican Conference was proud to deliver the votes needed to protect a critical public-safety grant for our community. Operation Stonegarden has protected Monroe County since 2009, fighting terrorism, securing critical infrastructure, and stopping drug, weapons, and human trafficking in our region.

For the last month, several Democrat Legislators spread lies to the public and on social media about what this grant actually does, trying to score cheap political points by instilling false fear in our community. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office corrected the record, on the record, more than once. They lied anyway, and voted no.

Make no mistake what that vote would have cost. This work wouldn't just disappear just because the funding does. It gets dumped onto the Sheriff's operating budget, and ultimately onto local taxpayers. Greece, Irondequoit, and Webster would have lost access to this funding too.

Some Democrats chose fearmongering over facts, and politics over public safety. The Republican Conference chose truth. It chose public safety. And it always will.

The Monroe County Legislature passed a vote Tuesday to approve federal funds from Operation Stonegarden.

Yesterday, Assistant Republican Leader Jackie Smith proudly submitted legislation to create a publicly accessible Monroe County Animal Abuse Registry.

The proposal is the culmination of months of work to strengthen protections for animals, hold convicted abusers accountable and help prevent repeat cruelty. Jackie worked closely with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and colleagues across county government to develop the proposal and build bipartisan support.

The registry would give law enforcement, shelters and pet dealers a practical tool to identify convicted animal abusers and help prevent them from acquiring another animal.

The Republican Conference is proud to support this common-sense effort to better protect our beloved four-legged family members throughout Monroe County.

Monroe County lawmakers consider a bipartisan Animal Abuse Registry listing adults convicted of animal cruelty and banning them from owning or adopting pets. Sponsor Jackie Smith notes other NY counties already use it.

Tonight, the Republican Conference of the Legislature again walked out when convicted cop-killer Anthony Bottom addressed the Legislature.

As with our previous walkout, this decision was made out of respect for NYPD Officers Joseph Piagentini and Waverly Jones, who were murdered in an execution-style ambush by Bottom and his accomplices, and San Francisco Police Sergeant John Young, whose killing Bottom was later charged in connection with. It was also made in support of the brave men and women of law enforcement.

Today, Deputy Republican Leader Paul Dondorfer hosted and joined fellow elected officials, family, friends, and community leaders to dedicate Titus Avenue in the Town of Irondequoit as the Dr. Joseph L. Carbone Memorial Highway.

This is a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to Irondequoit - from his podiatry practice, to his family home, to his leadership as President of the Monroe County Legislature.

Dr. Joe Carbone was truly larger than life, and this dedication will serve as a lasting reminder of his service, friendship, and love for the Irondequoit community for generations to come.

“Dr. Joe Carbone was one of a kind. Beyond being a dedicated public servant, to so many who knew him personally, he was a loyal friend and a true giant in our community,” said Deputy Republican Leader Paul Dondorfer. “Joe was outspoken, humorous, refreshingly honest, and always committed to doing what was right for the people he served. Dedicating Titus Avenue in his honor is a fitting tribute to a man whose impact on Irondequoit and Monroe County will be felt for generations.”

From those first battles for independence to today’s missions around the world, the Army’s history is built on courage and sacrifice. Generations of soldiers have served with honor, shaping and defending the nation through every era. Today we recognize its long legacy and all who have worn the uniform in service to the United States.
