From the Commanding Officer of NRC Rochester;
FOR WIDEST DISEMINATION AMONGST UNIT PHONE/CHAT/EMAIL TREE’S!
BLUF: 18/19 October drill weekend canceled and unless rescheduled by you elsewhere will be automatically rescheduled to 4/5 December. These drills can be liberally re-rescheduled to any other weekday that the NRC is in operation.
Good evening/morning NRC Rochester Team,
First, I want to thank those that jumped at the opportunity to assist with Funeral Honors while guidance was changing by the hour in the initial days of the Government shutdown. Your willingness to support a critical mission, even now while we cannot submit drills and travel, is invaluable and shows dedication to the service as well as dedication to ensuring our past brothers and sisters in arms are given the dignified and honor bound service they earned.
DRILL WEEKEND:
I have directed the rescheduling the October drill weekend to 4/5 December for the following reasons: 1) This ensures we start the new FY on strong footing towards completing our minimum drill weekends for a SAT year, 2) This gives maximum decision space for all to execute as designed or move the rescheduled days within the first quarter, 3) Allows for scheduling and planning the catered lunch to maximize the opportunity for those eligible to utilize.
For those that wish to reschedule those drills for a different day, you must target the first quarter of this FY. That’s October (if the Govt opens in time), November, or December. These must be rescheduled during a weekday as the NRC will not be open on weekends other than what’s already scheduled. Must not be rescheduled for 3 November or 8 and 15 December as the NRC will be closed as compensation for the drill weekends. Must not be rescheduled during any other listed off days due to Federally observed holiday periods (as listed per our FY26 schedule). If by Friday morning, 17 October, drills have not been rescheduled, the NRC will automatically reschedule them for 4/5 December.
Please note, that if you choose to reschedule to a day outside of 4/5 December, lunch will not be provided. The catering company cannot be scheduled for only one or a few personnel at a time. If you are eligible for a hotel while drilling, things will function as normal.
ITEMS THAT REQUIRE ATTENTION:
Even though we are not drilling in October, being Mobilization Ready is an enduring requirement! For this, if you owe medical updates for the month, you must still provide them to medical. If you have outstanding work in maintaining your security clearance, you need to complete this. If your ZIPSERVE Pay Package requires update, you need to complete this. Remember, being Mob ready is an all the time thing and we must be ready to Mobilize when needed.
Also, the DEOCS! Please take some time to login and take the survey! While on the topic of “login”, don’t forget to login to ensure your accounts stay active and won’t require reactivation. This includes your network account.
NAVY BALL:
As the subject line states, the 250th Navy Ball is still a go. It’s also not too late to purchase your tickets if you have not yet done so and wish to join us in celebration (flyer attached). For those that will now be unable to attend, your absence will be missed! Please keep in mind that since the venue, food and other costs have already been incurred and due to these costs not being refundable, ticket purchase refunds cannot be granted.
OMBUDSMAN:
As a reminder Marjorie Gladle is our Ombudsman and would love to hear from you. For those new Sailors that will have a postponed Indoc (pushed to November DW) and would like some Navy Reserve information, or just want to introduce yourself, she is always happy for you to reach out. Please note, she works during the day and may not respond immediately. Also, she does not handle NRC specific business but is a great resource for services and other things the Navy has to offer us and our families. She is CCd and her number is: 315-466-9174.
As always, keep the communications high and until we see you again, take care!
Very Respectfully,
LCDR Andrew Hetzner
Commanding Officer
