🎉 WELCOME BACK! Today marked the return of our entire staff as we officially kicked off the 2026-27 school year, and what better way to start than with an inspiring message from a familiar face?
We were thrilled to welcome back Mr. Dennard Mitchell, best-selling author and educational speaker, who returned to West Irondequoit for an encore presentation at the invitation of Superintendent, Aaron Johnson. After captivating in 2024, Mr. Mitchell “ran it back” — and once again, he had our crew laughing, thinking and reflecting.
From stories about his life — including his memorable former high school teacher “Hello, Mr. Diamond” — to an important reminder that educators must take care of themselves so they can be at their best for students, Mr. Mitchell delivered a message that resonated.
Perhaps his most powerful message was his belief that school staff members are more than educators — we are shepherds for the children of our community. And while all may have different roles – we know the job is to take care of our one flock.
Thank you, Mr. Mitchell, for helping our staff begin another school year with energy, purpose and a renewed sense of the important role we play in the lives of our students.
