It's and you've got this, Tigers! The RIT Archives Research Center is switching to our Summer hours, and we'll have by-appointment availability through August 21, 2026. To schedule, please email us at [email protected]. 🐅😎📚

On Wednesday, February 11th from 4:30-6:30 PM, we're co-hosting an opening reception with Beyond Fashion (Shop One - RIT Global Village) in University Gallery at RIT! Our newest student-centered exhibit, "Inscription: The Process Work of Albert Paley," will be on display in the Gallery's Grid Space through March 6, 2026.

This exhibit was co-curated by Emelia McCalla (Graphic Design BFA, ‘26) and Kaitlyn Kavanagh (Museum Studies BS and New Media Design BFA, ‘26) for Professor John Monaco’s Spring 2025 MUSE-241 class, and features materials from our recently acquired Albert Paley collection. All graphic design was completed by Michelle Fu (Graphic Design BFA, '26) and Julian Howland (Graphic Design BFA, '26) for Command+g Design Lab —including this reel, which features Paley’s actual handwriting! And as always, our friends from the Imaging Services Lab (ISL) supplied the vinyl prints.

Please join us for the opening reception, and help celebrate our talented student co-curators and designers!

Tomorrow! Join us for day one of the Engaging Rochester Symposium honoring the life and legacy of Gene DePrez (1940-2025). Gene was a civic innovator and visionary founder of Rochester's Urbanarium, and a very dear friend of the RIT Archives.

From 4:30-6:30 PM, our student club, Archive Collective (ArC) has curated a pop-up exhibit for the reception in the MAGIC Spell Studios Lobby. Come view materials from the Gene DePrez papers (RITArc.0793), and help ArC members flex their docent skills!

All graphic design for this two-day event was completed by Carlos Mosca (Graphic Design BFA, '26) for Command+g Design Lab (RIT Graphic Design) in the RIT College of Art and Design.

University Archivist Liz Call is on her way to an exciting new job as the Head of the Eberly Family Special Collections Library at Penn State University Libraries and we will miss her dearly. In her 6+ years at RIT, Liz was a champion for access, outreach and collaboration. Students, faculty, staff, and greater Rochester have all benefitted from her drive to build community through archives. She did so much of the hard work of an archival leader: (re)assessing our collections, building our student-centered teaching and exhibits programs, activating donor relationships, starting photo cake traditions (🙂), establishing the RIT Archives StoryBooth oral history initiative, and so much more!

Liz has been a fearless advocate for our department, and a role model for staff and student employees alike. She has left RIT Archives better than she found it, and we know that Liz will go on to do vital, dynamizing work at Penn State and beyond. Congrats, Liz! 🟠🐯⚪️🦁🔵

Since we've announced the second volume in the RIT Archives Chapbook Series, you might be wondering: who was Marcia Ellingson? Let's get an introduction!

Marcia was the daughter of RIT President John Randall, and the wife of RIT President Mark Ellingson. As a woman of many things, she founded the RIT Women's Council, documented our history in scrapbooks, and "gently" advocated for women's rights and dignity.

The Marcia Ellingson chapbook is being written this semester by students in University Archivist Liz Call's Hands-on History (HIST-421) class. Stay tuned for pre-order and release dates in 2026!
