Circulation Assistant Becky Bohn recommends Hidden Valley Road: Inside the Mind of an American Family by Robert Kolker in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month.

“My heart went out to the Galvins. Initially living the American dream during the Baby Boom, six boys out of the family's 12 children were diagnosed with schizophrenia. Many people's lives have been affected by mental illness, and the author takes a look at not just those boys, but the remaining children, the parents, and the toll it took on all of their lives. Devastating, but the intertwined sections on mental health research are ultimately hopeful for the future.”

For Jewish American Heritage Month, Head of Communications and Engagement, Betsy, recommends, Shabbat Shalom, Let's Rest and Reset by Suzy Ultman.
"I love the playful art in this book, and the way it's used to convey Shabbat in a sweet and fun, yet still meaningful and accessible way. It's a reminder for everyone to "stop doing and just be."

Our Marketing Assistant, Grace Kurokawa, recommends the movie Departures for AAPI Heritage Month:

"It captures the beauty in how Japanese culture honors the deceased and the ritual the morticians perform to prepare the departed for their next life. The storytelling is incredible, with a perfect balance of moments that made me laugh and cry. The musical score is also fantastic and is written by one of my favorite Japanese composers, Joe Hisaishi."
