On 3-15-2026, Lake Shore responded promptly to a report of smoke in a structure located on Old Edgemere Drive. The first engine to arrive on scene did so in under three minutes and quickly identified a fire within the wall of the residence. The fire was contained to the room of origin, resulting in minimal damage. We appreciate the resident's swift action in identifying the problem and seeking help. Had the fire spread to the exterior of the structure during yesterday's strong winds, it would have resulted in a significantly larger incident.

Yesterday morning, Lake Shore and Hilton Firefighters came together and trained on ice water rescue. We spent time on Braddock Bay and Long Pond practicing different rescue techniques.

We appreciate Westpoint Marina allowing us to use their facilities.

As the ice begins to melt in the coming weeks, please use wisdom before you spend time on the ice.

This morning at approximately 9:00am Lake Shore responded mutual aid to the Hilton Parma Fire District for the person in the water just outside the mouth of Braddock Bay.

Responders arrived just after the person made it to shore with severe exposure and began EMS prior to the ambulance arrival.

Lake Shore and Hilton retrieved a kayak and belongings from Lake Ontario to avoid further calls, environmental issues, and persons attempting to retrieve the items and put themselves in harms way.

Lake Shore was covered by our volunteer and career firefighters until the first due unit returned to the district.

As the ice fishing season arrives:

Ice safety comes first when ice fishing.

You need at least 4 inches of solid ice before stepping out. That is the minimum.

Ice thickness is not the same across a lake, pond, stream, or river. It changes by location. It changes fast.

These safety numbers apply only to new, clear ice on non-moving water. Anything over 30” thick will hold a T-Rex.

Check the ice often. Drill. Measure. Move slow. Be safe!
