🎉 Congratulations Direct Hire Class #5 🚒

Today, the Rock Hill Fire Department proudly graduated three new direct hire firefighters after the successful completion of the training academy.

Unlike our traditional recruit academy, these firefighters were hired with previous training and experience. Over the past three weeks, they have completed orientation, physical fitness testing, and an intensive skills review program to join the ranks of our department.

Congratulations to firefighters Glenn Flowers, Ashton Foster, and Timothy Mills. Stay safe, serve with pride, and never forget why you chose this profession.

This past weekend, we gathered at the Rock Hill Fire Training Center for our annual Awards Social - an event dedicated to honoring service, leadership, and brotherhood within our department.

The 2025 Firefighter of the Year award, nominated and voted on by fellow firefighters, was presented to Casey Nelson.

The 2025 Fire Officer of the Year award, nominated by peers and approved by Command Staff, was awarded to Captain Frank Plate.

We also proudly recognized Captain Mike Atkins on his retirement after 16 years of dedicated service to the department.

It was a great time of fellowship shared among firefighters, family members, and 13 department retirees who joined us for the celebration.

Congratulations to all three of these firefighters on their well-earned recognition and accomplishments!

This past Thursday, our Fire Department team was proud to participate in the City’s bi-annual Inside Rock Hill program.

Inside Rock Hill (IRH) is a 9-week civics course that gives residents a behind-the-scenes look at how the City operates and how to better access services.

During the session, personnel conducted a live fire burn demonstration, showcased various apparatus, and shared insight into department operations. Attendees also explored breakout sessions covering PPE, medical response equipment, fire safety education, swiftwater rescue, and rope rescue.

Today the Rock Hill Fire Department is proud to place our first LIFEPAK 35 cardiac monitor into service - continuing our commitment to providing high-quality emergency medical care.

As one of the first departments in South Carolina to use this advanced, state-of-the-art technology, we are strengthening our ability to assess, monitor, and treat patients in critical situations - helping ensure the best possible outcomes for the community we proudly serve.

All of our frontline apparatus are currently equipped with LIFEPAK 15 monitors, with plans to transition to the LIFEPAK 35 as opportunities allow.

SC Forestry Commission to issue statewide burning ban, effective at 4 p.m. today

COLUMBIA—The South Carolina Forestry Commission is issuing a State Forester’s Burning Ban for all counties, effective at 4 p.m. today.

A State Forester’s Burning Ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including yard debris burning, prescribed burning, campfires, bonfires and other recreational fires in all unincorporated areas of the state.

The ban does not apply to fires used for the preparation of food or fires used in appropriate enclosures (portable outdoor fireplaces, chimineas or permanent fire pits constructed of stone, masonry, metal or other noncombustible material that conforms with all applicable South Carolina fire codes).

Forestry Commission officials say weather conditions over the next several days present a greatly elevated potential for fires igniting easily and spreading rapidly. Dangerously low relative humidities – reaching below 20% in some areas – combined with extremely dry fuels statewide and gusty winds will create a particularly volatile mix of wildfire risk factors throughout the weekend.

"In addition to the intensifying drought conditions, the weather we’re going to see statewide over the next several days makes it ripe for any fire that starts to burn intensely and move fast,” SCFC Fire Chief Darryl Jones said. "While these conditions can make wildfires ignite easily anywhere and make it more challenging for firefighters to contain, we’re really concerned about areas where events like Hurricane Helene and recent ice damage have led to higher amounts of fuel. This burning ban is necessary to limit ignitions to the maximum extent possible to prevent severe wildfires for public safety purposes."

The ban will stay in effect until further notice, which will come in the form of an official announcement from the Forestry Commission.
