You have a say in how the City spends more than $1 million in CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) funds! 💵 What are CDBG funds? In a nutshell, this federal money helps pay for affordable housing, anti-poverty programs and infrastructure development. This is one of the longest-running programs by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. 🏠

To learn more, you are invited to attend community meetings: Today, Oct. 17, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the South Rock Island Township Office, 4330 11th Street; or Oct. 24 from 9 to 10 a.m. or 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Rock Island Police Department, 1212 5th Ave. You may also take an easy, online survey.

Some of you may have heard that the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum - Rock Island, IL is closing and transferring their collection to other museums. The City is sad to see a valuable cultural institution like Karpeles close its doors and we thank them for their many years of educational service to the Rock Island community. We encourage you to visit their current collection before they close Saturday.

You may have also heard that Great Revivalist Brewery plans to open a restaurant and bar in the building at 700 22nd Street. While the City is excited at the potential of this business opening in the Broadway Historic District and the adaptive reuse of an historic building, the project is still in the early planning stages and needs to go through the necessary approvals. The City strives to maintain accurate and clear communication regarding development.
