Today DSA celebrates Juneteenth - the end of chattel slavery in the U.S. - and our commitment to Black liberation. From our Workers Deserve More program, we fight to finish Reconstruction and the flourishing of Black, brown, and indigenous communities, including:

- Ending the legacies of slavery and colonialism
- Reinforcing anti-discrimination laws
- Honoring all treaties and tribal sovereignty
- Enacting reparations and massively investing in good jobs, quality housing and infrastructure in neglected minority communities
- Treating drug addiction and mental illness as health issues, not crimes
- Ending qualified immunity and empowering civilian oversight bodies with real authority over the police
- Demilitarizing police departments, disempowering police unions, and redirecting police and prison funding to public services as steps towards abolishing the carceral forces of the capitalist state

Today, we honor Juneteenth—the day enslaved Black Americans in Texas learned of their freedom, more than two years after emancipation was declared.

“The Uprising at Blair Mountain remains a shining moment in American history. It stands out as the closest thing to class warfare that has ever taken place in this country. Ten thousand workers fought against their exploitation and exposed the depths of depravity that capitalists, with the full backing of the government, will sink to in order to maintain power.

We must channel the solidarity that the miners in the Uprising at Blair Mountain possessed in our ongoing fight for everyone in the working class, and we must never capitulate to capitalism.”

The Blair Mountain uprising stands out as the closest thing to class warfare in U.S. history.
