Mission Monday: Permanent Supportive Housing

Meet Dre Walton, one of the dedicated caseworkers behind Project NOW's Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) Program!

Dre joined Project NOW at the beginning of this year as a part-time Shelter Caseworker and has since advanced into a full-time PSH Caseworker role. His growth reflects both his commitment to serving our community and Project NOW's mission of helping people build stable, successful futures.

Today, Dre is giving us a behind-the-scenes look at what a first appointment with a PSH client looks like.

🏠 What happens during a first appointment?

The first meeting is all about building trust and understanding each client's unique situation. Every conversation is centered on helping individuals and families maintain safe, stable housing while overcoming barriers that may have led to homelessness.

"The first appointment is an opportunity to get to know the client, understand their goals, and begin building a partnership that supports their success," says Dre.

Thank you, Dre, for your dedication to helping our neighbors secure and maintain permanent housing.

💙 Thankful Thursday 💙
This afternoon, we celebrate the incredible volunteers who make our Senior Center programs possible each and every day. From delivering hot meals to homebound seniors, hosting congregate meal sites, leading activities, providing outreach, and helping create meaningful events — your kindness and dedication strengthen our entire community.
Because of you, older adults in our community feel supported, connected, valued, and cared for.
Thank you for sharing your time, talents, compassion, and heart with Project NOW and the seniors we serve. We are endlessly grateful for each of you and the difference you make every single day.

People leaving prison in Illinois are often sent out with just $15-$25 and a train ticket, and sometimes not even that. No family to call. No money for food. No place to sleep. Just a bus or train ride back into the same struggles they fought to escape.

When we release people with no plan and no support, we shouldn't be surprised when homelessness and desperation follow. That's not a second chance, it's a setup to fail. Illinois can do better.
Home for Good would make sure every person leaving prison has a housing plan before they walk out the door. Because everyone deserves a real chance to rebuild their life, come home safely, and stay Home for Good!

WRITE YOUR LEGISLATORS AT https://homeforgoodillinois.com/letters/ reminding them about Home For Good, encouraging them to support. 🏛️

Today for , we’re celebrating and congratulating the 2026 HCCTP Class at Black Hawk College! 🎓🚧

At Project NOW, we’re grateful for partnerships that create opportunities, remove barriers, and strengthen our communities — and our connection with Black Hawk College goes far beyond the classroom.

For years, we’ve worked side by side serving Mercer, Henry, and Rock Island counties through workforce development and community services. Through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), the American Job Center network, and years of shared leadership, our organizations have remained connected through a common mission: helping individuals build pathways toward stability and long-term success.

The partnership is deeply rooted in our communities. Our Kewanee office is located on the Black Hawk College campus, we have shared board leadership over the years, and even the HCCTP program itself has a Project NOW connection. HCCTP Director Paul Fessler was once one of our own changemakers, continuing his work of helping individuals build brighter futures.

Many of the students entering these programs are navigating the same challenges we see every day. Black Hawk College serves many students facing financial barriers, and together we work to ensure support extends beyond education. Every HCCTP student receives information on resources available through Project NOW because success isn’t only about training — it's also about making sure people have access to essentials like utility assistance, housing support, transportation help, and other services that keep them moving forward.

Many participants first learned about the program through community connections, attended orientation, committed themselves to the process, and crossed the graduation stage ready for what’s next.

Congratulations to the HCCTP Class of 2026. Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance are helping build stronger communities for tomorrow.

Stronger Together 💙

🚐 Wednesday Impact | Rural Public Transportation

Every ride tells a story. For many of our neighbors, transportation means more than getting from one place to another — it means maintaining independence, staying healthy, and remaining connected to their community.

This year, Project NOW’s Rural Public Transportation program made a meaningful difference across Rock Island County:

📍 6,516 rides provided to seniors (60+)
🎬 1,062 rides to social activities including movie outings and community luncheons
🛒 1,434 recreational trips for grocery shopping, beauty appointments, and visits to the Rock Island Fitness Center
🏥 5,098 rides to medically necessary appointments

Whether it's a doctor’s visit, a trip for groceries, or an opportunity to spend time with friends, transportation helps remove barriers and keeps people connected to the moments that matter.

Impact happens one ride at a time. 💙
