⛈️Building a Weather-Ready Community: The Weather Spotter and Preparedness Training held last evening at the Sweetwater County Justice Center was a great success. 💨

A special thank you to Lance from the National Weather Service Riverton for providing an outstanding presentation and sharing valuable information on severe weather awareness, storm spotting, and preparedness. The training provided participants with the knowledge needed to recognize hazardous weather conditions and report critical information that can help protect lives and property.

We would also like to thank the members of Sweetwater County CERT and our local amateur radio operators for their continued commitment to preparedness, emergency communications, and serving our community.

Working together, we continue to build a safer, more resilient Sweetwater County.

⚠️ STAY WEATHER AWARE ⚠️

Fire weather concerns will continue across much of Wyoming through Wednesday due to gusty winds, very low humidity, and increasingly dry fuels.

🌬️ Wind gusts: 30–40 mph
💧 Relative humidity: As low as 10%
🕚 Timing: 11:00 AM Tuesday through 8:00 PM Wednesday

While elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions remain possible today, stronger winds on Tuesday and Wednesday will increase the potential for rapid fire growth and spread.

🚨 A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for portions of Natrona County (Fire Zone 280) due to dry fuels and poor overnight humidity recovery.

Remember: Just because your area is not under a Red Flag Warning does not mean conditions are safe. Low humidity, dry vegetation, and gusty winds can still allow any new fire start to spread quickly and become difficult to control.

Please use extreme caution with activities that could create sparks or flames:

✔ Avoid outdoor burning
✔ Properly dispose of smoking materials
✔ Secure trailer chains and equipment
✔ Delay activities that create sparks or heat
✔ Report smoke or fire immediately

One spark is all it takes. Stay weather aware and help prevent wildfires.

🕛 Timing: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM

**What does "near-critical fire weather" mean?**
These conditions are favorable for the rapid growth and spread of wildfires. Strong winds combined with very low humidity can cause any fire that starts to spread quickly and become difficult to control.

Please use extreme caution with any activities that could create sparks or flames.

✔ Avoid outdoor burning
✔ Properly dispose of smoking materials
✔ Secure trailer chains to prevent sparks
✔ Delay activities that create heat or sparks

A single spark can start a wildfire under these conditions. Stay alert, remain weather aware, and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.

Memorial Day is not only about loss — it is about honoring courage, sacrifice, and the legacy left behind by those who answered the call when their nation needed them most. The freedoms we live with every day were secured by men and women willing to stand in harm’s way for something greater than themselves.

Today we remember the fallen, honor their sacrifice, and give thanks for the lives they lived, the example they set, and the brothers and sisters they fought beside. Their names and their impact on this nation shall never be forgotten.

May we never take for granted the price paid for our freedom.

* WHEN...From 9 PM Monday evening to 9 AM MDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
plumbing.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Overnight lows could be a few degrees warmer
if cloud cover does not clear early Tuesday. Sub-freezing
temperatures would still occur.
