WYDOT will be closing the westbound I-80 off-ramp at Exit 173 in Wamsutter on Tuesday, August 18th, for roadway repairs. Maintenance crews will be paving damaged sections where the ramp meets the crossroad. Work will occur during daylight hours and is expected to wrap up the same day.

Westbound drivers heading to Wamsutter can detour by taking Exit 170, looping back onto eastbound I-80, and exiting at Wamsutter via Exit 173.

WYDOT and contract crews from DeBernardi Construction will begin work on the I-80 bridge on the west end of the Green River Tunnels beginning Monday, August 17. Crews will be replacing the bridge deck on the eastbound bridge.

While crews are working on the eastbound structure, drivers will see single lane closure protected by concrete barriers on the eastbound lanes as crews work on half of the bridge at a time. Motorists should expect reduced speeds and narrow lanes while the work is underway.

While the work is underway, the eastbound on ramp at exit 89 on the west end of Green River will be closed to traffic. Drivers can access Interstate 80 on the east end of Green River at exit 91 on and off ramps.

A width restriction of 10 feet will be in effect through the construction zone and on the I-80 business route, Flaming Gorge Way, in Green River. More information about width restrictions, permits and alternates routes, drivers can contact the WYDOT permit office at 307-777-4894.

The completion date for this work is October 31, 2026.

Just a reminder to all counties in western Wyoming, signs are NOT allowed along state highways. What is a "right-of-way" exactly? While it may vary based on location, typically WYDOT's right-of-way is from one highway fence line across the road to the other fence line.

FARSON, Wyo. WYDOT and crews from Hardrives Construction, Inc., will begin chip sealing WYO 28, east of Farson, beginning this Monday, Aug. 3. Operations will be underway for several weeks.

Crews will be chip sealing sections of WYO 28 from mile marker .08 to 24.41, east of Farson and mile marker 100 to 128.05, west of Farson. Crews will not be chip sealing through the intersection of US 191 and WYO 28 in Farson. Crews will begin work Monday at the east end of the project and work their way to the west. The work is estimated to take approximately two weeks, with a projected end date of August 15th.

Traffic will be carried through all the work areas at reduced speeds using flaggers and pilot cars. Drivers are advised to obey all traffic control signs and plan accordingly for delays that will occur in the work zones. Delays could last 10 to 20 minutes at a time. WYDOT encourages drivers to slow down, increase their following distance and be aware of road conditions to reduce the possibility of a cracked windshield. Chip seal work is necessary to help prolong the lifespan of a pavement and keep drivers safer.

Drivers who are approaching the work zone from an adjacent connecting road are advised to stop and wait for the pilot car. Once the queue of cars following the pilot car has passed in the direction the driver wishes to travel, the driver is then able to turn out and follow the queue through the work zone.

WYDOT closed I-80 late yesterday to perform some emergency roadway patching near Patrick Draw.
WYDOT crews were notified late Tuesday afternoon of some extensive pavement damage on a patched bridge section at mile marker 146. The damaged pavement was within a construction project east of Rock Springs, in head-to-head traffic. To ensure public safety and mitigate the risk of future vehicle damage, crews expedited the repairs, forcing a closure of the westbound lanes.

“We’ve had our eye on that area for a while. With the recent excessive heat, the pavement deteriorated pretty quickly, and we knew we had to make some repairs right away,” WYDOT resident engineer Brad McCullough said.

To perform the repairs within the head-to-head traffic section, the I-80 westbound lanes were closed at 7:26 p.m. Due to active construction in the Rawlins area rendering the primary closure gates inaccessible, WYDOT crews were unable to implement the westbound closure in Rawlins and instead established the closure point in Laramie. The estimated closure time was three-to-five hours.

Due to the severity of the deteriorated pavement, the entire five-hour closure window was utilized to safely complete the work. No further immediate repairs are currently scheduled for the damaged area at mile marker 146. However, drivers should be aware that construction east of Rock Springs remains active in the eastbound lanes, and crews will be returning later this summer to the westbound lanes for some pavement repair work prior to the project’s completion.

KEMMERER AREA TRAVELERS: Crews are wrapping up work on setting the concrete sections of the wildlife overpass on US 189 South of Kemmerer. Minimal construction delays will resume after today!

ROCK SPRINGS DRIVERS: WYDOT and DeBernardi Construction will begin work on the last two phases of the concrete slab repair project on the South Belt Loop from Dewar Drive to Blair Avenue, beginning Wednesday, July 15th. The work will be split into two sections to allow continuous access to West Center Street.

Beginning this Wednesday, July 15th work will take place from the intersection of Dewar Drive up to West Center Street. Drivers should note that West Center Street will only be accessible on the east side from Blair Avenue. The work should last 12 days, weather permitting.

Beginning Monday, July 27th, crews will move the work from West Center Street to Blair Avenue. At that time West Center Street will only be accessible on the west side from Dewar Drive.

Drivers are advised to obey all traffic control and closure signs and be aware of roadside workers while the work is underway for roughly a month.

Kemmerer area travelers, we've been hearing rumors that drivers are planning to skirt the delays on the US 189 Kemmerer South wildlife project by using a private mine haul road (abandoned US 189). Unfortunately that will lead drivers right back into our work zone, where you will be delayed. Make a good choice and take the detour around!

GREEN RIVER drivers: Beginning on Monday, July 13, WYDOT and DeBernardi Construction will be working on concrete repairs to Flaming Gorge Way near Centennial Park. Crews estimate the work will take roughly a week, with completion on July 17th, weather permitting.

Drivers will be detoured around the work zone on North 1st West Street and North 3rd West Street while construction is underway. Drivers are advised to obey all traffic control and detour signs and be aware of roadside workers. Pedestrians will have access through the construction zone but should be aware of their surroundings and uneven terrain.
