Today, Rockaway Beach Fire Rescue pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer—it is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave everything to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We also recognize the families who carry the weight of that sacrifice and continue to honor the legacy of their loved ones.

As you spend time with family and friends today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to remember our fallen heroes and reflect on the true meaning of this day.

🚒 Training Night at Rockaway Beach Fire Rescue 🚒

Tonight’s drill focused on victim extrication through a window — a challenging but essential skill that requires teamwork, communication, and problem-solving under pressure. Crews practiced techniques for safely removing a victim from a confined space while managing obstacles, maintaining patient care, and ensuring firefighter safety.

From ladder work and tool deployment to coordinated patient movement, every evolution builds confidence and prepares our firefighters for real-world emergencies.

Training like this helps ensure we’re ready when our community needs us most.

Have you ever wondered how communities respond when disasters overwhelm emergency resources? That's where CERT comes in.

What is CERT?
CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a volunteer program that trains community members in basic disaster response skills including fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, damage assessment, and team organization.

Why is CERT so important?
During large emergencies, first responders may not be able to reach everyone immediately. CERT volunteers become a critical part of the response effort by helping neighbors, gathering information, assisting with damage assessments, and providing support until additional help arrives.

CERT helps build a stronger, safer, and more resilient Rockaway Beach. Whether you're already part of CERT or curious about getting involved, we encourage you to attend and learn how you can make a difference.

This week, Rockaway Beach Fire Rescue proudly recognizes and celebrates EMS Week 2026 as we honor the dedicated professionals who answer the call every day and provide compassionate care when it matters most.

EMS professionals are there on someone’s worst day—responding to emergencies, delivering critical care, offering comfort, and serving our community with skill, professionalism, and heart. Day or night, holidays or weekends, they stand ready to help others without hesitation.

🚨 BIG NEWS FOR ROCKAWAY BEACH 🚨

Rockaway Beach Fire & Rescue is proud to announce that we have once again been awarded the Wildfire Season Staffing Grant from the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office!

This critical funding allows us to increase on-duty staffing during the busy summer months, when our population grows and wildfire risk is at its highest.

🔥 Why this matters:
During wildfire season, our region faces elevated fire danger while also welcoming an influx of visitors enjoying the coast. This combination significantly increases demand for emergency services—from wildfire response and prevention to medical calls and structure fires.

👨‍🚒 This grant helps us:
• Staff additional firefighters each day
• Improve emergency response times
• Strengthen wildfire preparedness and response
• Provide rapid wildfire response for our neighbors throughout Tillamook County
• Provide conflagration support should our county be deployed to assist throughout the region
• Enhance firefighter and community safety
• Ensure reliable coverage during peak demand

Without this support, maintaining adequate staffing during wildfire season would be a significant challenge. This grant helps us continue delivering the high level of service our community and visitors expect and deserve.
