It is just about that time to check your smoke detectors to make sure they still work. Many models have used those 9 volt batteries and need to be replaced once or even twice a year. Newer models have a 10 year battery in them, which tends to forgetting all about them. Check them. Hit the test button. Make sure they work. They really are one of the main reasons people survive a house fire. Many examples can be found right here in Rockaway Beach where a house fire without a smoke detector has cost the life of the occupant. If you need help reaching or replacing a detector, one of the volunteers at the fire station can help. Stop by the station. Look around.
We are here to help.

Pictured here is one of the main reasons there are drownings here in Rockaway.
Boogie boards give the very false impression of a floatation device you can not be separated from with a strap attached to your arm. Truth is one wave will break that plastic strap and leave you in the merciless 57° water of the Pacific.
You will be dead in minutes. We will look for you. We will collect your dead body and bring it to shore, if we find you, and reunite it with your grieving family. We may not find you for days. This is not a swimmers beach. Don’t go in past your waist.
