Upcoming road closure: Beach Street and Stickle Ave will be closed starting 8/13/2026 at 0700 for Beach St. bridge repairs from East Main Street to Union Street. Local traffic will be able to access homes and businesses.

Rockaway Borough: National Night Out is Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Rockaway Borough Police invites the community to come out from 6pm to 9pm at Fireman’s Field in Rockaway Boro to celebrate a FREE fun family night out! There will be a helicopter landing around 615pm followed by Warrior Professional Wrestling at 730pm.

Congratulations, Lieutenant Chris Richardson, on Your Retirement!

A graduate of the 48th Basic Police Class at the Morris County Police Academy, Lieutenant Richardson began his distinguished career with the Rockaway Borough Police Department as a member of the Patrol Division. In recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication, he was promoted to Sergeant in 2017 and to Lieutenant in 2020.

We extend our deepest gratitude for more than 29 years of dedicated leadership, unwavering integrity, and distinguished service to the Rockaway Borough Police Department and the community it proudly serves. Your professionalism, commitment to duty, and steadfast devotion to public service have left an enduring mark on your fellow officers, the department, and the residents of Rockaway Borough.

Hours will be extended today until 8pm at the cooling / charging center which is at the Rockaway Borough Community Center located 21-25 Union Street. Tomorrow it will also be open between 9am-5pm.

Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) continues to restore service to customers who lost power during the severe weather event and has activated our retail water and ice program. For those customers remaining without power, JCP&L is offering free water and ice at the following locations as of July 4th, 2026.

Residents that need a cooling or charging center the Rockaway Borough Community Center will be open today on 21-25 Union St. from 9am-5pm.

Please do not contact us to ask when you're power will be restored. We have the same outage and restoration information that is available to the publc through JCP&L.

As soon as we receive any new or additional information, we will share it with the community immediately.

A transformer issue has caused a power outage affecting the Union Street and Maple Avenue area. Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) has been notified. The outage is also impacting other areas of town due to down power lines and trees. In addition, there is significant power outages throughout Morris County.

With extreme temperatures expected, residents who need a place to cool off are welcome to stop by the Rockaway Borough Library.

Cooling centers will be only opened on an as-needed basis. Please call the Rockaway Borough Police Department's non-emergency number at 973-627-1314 if you need further assistance.
