💧 Water System Maintenance Notice

The Borough Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants over the next two days to remove air buildup from the water system.

Affected areas include:

Maple Ave, Halsey Ave, Hill Street, Woodside Ave, and surrounding streets.

During this time, you may notice cloudy or discolored water, or air in your lines. This is normal and temporary.

✅ Cloudy or discolored water — Run your cold water tap until it clears.
✅ Air in the lines — Leave the faucet open until water flows freely.

⚠️ ROCKAWAY POLICE TRAFFIC ALERT ⚠️
The following road closures and traffic impacts are in effect following this evening's thunderstorm:

🌳 W. Main Street is closed between Elycroft and Swede Mine Road due to a large tree down.

⚡ Franklin Avenue is closed between Rockaway Avenue and E. Main Street due to a large tree branch that brought down two primary power lines. Update: JCP&L is on scene at addressing the power issue. Power is expected to be restored by early morning.

🚦 The traffic signal at Route 46 and Franklin Avenue is currently out of service. Officials are awaiting assistance from NJDOT.

Motorists are advised to avoid these areas, seek alternate routes, and use caution while crews work to clear debris and address storm-related damage.

Please note the following schedule changes for the Borough of Rockaway in observance of Memorial Day:

🏛️ Municipal Building
• Closing early at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 22
• Closed Monday, May 25

♻️ Recycling Center
• Closing early at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 22
• Open Saturday from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM as usual

⚠️ ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE ⚠️

West Main Street is currently closed in both directions from Elycroft Avenue to Route 46 due to a tree down on power lines.

Please avoid the area and seek alternate routes while crews work to clear the roadway and restore utilities.

🚧 ROAD RESURFACING UPDATE – DETAILED SCHEDULE 🚧

Rockaway Borough will begin road resurfacing soon. Work will be completed in stages — not all streets will be milled or paved on the same day. This means there will always be a nearby street available for parking.

📅 MILLING (Week of April 27)
• Mon 4/27: Sylvan Way, Phillip Drive, Dominick Drive
• Tue 4/28: Andrea Drive

🛣️ PAVING (Week of May 4)
• Fri 5/1: Sylvan Way, Phillip Drive, Dominick Drive
👉 Please park on Andrea Drive

• Mon 5/4: Andrea Drive
👉 Please park on Phillip Drive or Dominick Drive

🚗 IMPORTANT REMINDERS
• Vehicles must be removed from the street on milling and paving days
• Driveway access will be maintained during milling (brief delays possible)
• For paving, move vehicles before 6:00 AM and do not return until cones are removed

🛠️ Storm basin work is expected to be completed by April 24 (weather permitting)

📢 Schedules may change due to weather or unforeseen construction issues. Please check rockawayborough.org for updates.

🚧 2026 Road Resurfacing Project – Upcoming Work

Rockaway Borough will be completing road resurfacing work in the coming weeks. Milling and paving are currently scheduled for the following streets:

Andrea Drive
Dominick Drive
Phillip Drive
Sylvan Way

Tentative Schedule:
Milling: Week of April 27
Paving: Week of May 4

Please note that all dates are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen construction issues.

Residents are reminded that vehicles must be removed from the road on milling and paving days, temporary delays may occur when accessing driveways, on paving days, vehicles must be moved prior to 6:00 AM, and newly paved roads cannot be driven on until cones are removed.

Storm basin work is expected to begin the week of April 13 and should have minimal impact on traffic.
