We have confirmation that the mobile pantry will be at the KC Hall this week (Thursday, 1/7/21) as scheduled. In order to practice social distancing, this distribution will be a drive through model with everyone staying in their vehicles. This is the same distribution method that was done at the last few mobile pantries. Distribution is from 9-11 am.

******************************************
The KC Hall will not be open during this distribution. NO RESTROOM FACILITIES WILL BE AVAILABLE.
******************************************

We will have everyone drive around the back of the building from the side opposite the truck. Someone will take your name and another person will put a box of food in your trunk. Everyone will stay in their vehicles.

For this to work, please have your trunk cleared out enough for a large box of food to go in. Once you are in the distribution area, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE.

Milam County COVID Vaccination and Testing Report
Tuesday, December 29, 2020 7:00 p.m.

Ladies & Gentlemen: There were big changes in the vaccination protocol implemented by the State today. In addition, we have many new cases to report. Tune in to the Milam County Judge radio show tomorrow morning at 9:05 a.m. on KRXT 98.5 and KMIL 105.1 to learn a lot more about the changes and how they affect the vaccination process. I will be happy to answer any call in questions.

COVID Vaccinations: Today we received our first shipments of the Moderna vaccine in Milam County. Milam County received 100 doses and Brookshire Brothers in Rockdale received a similar amount of the vaccine.

In addition, the State changed the vaccination protocol today. We may now administer the drug to those in the medical field and those who are over 65 and those between the ages of 16-64 who have an underlying serious health condition. Prior to today, we only had authority to vaccinate those in the medical field. For a complete definition of these two groups referred to as groups 1A and 1B, please click on the link below:
https://www.dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus/immunize/vaccine.aspx.

We estimate there are about 8,000 group 1B individuals in the County that are now eligible to be vaccinated. However, we do not have enough of the drug. We will receive additional shipments every week and the amounts will increase and we will eventually get everyone vaccinated.

The County will administer the drug beginning this week to groups 1A and 1B. If you are in one of these groups and you would like to get vaccinated, please email Ms. Denise Wallace at [email protected] and we will put you on the list. You may also call Ms. Wallace at 254 697 7000.

Brookshire Brothers in Rockdale will also provide the vaccinations pursuant to the above protocol. However, this is done by appointment only (512 446 5139). There are no walk-ins. Today, Brookshire Brothers was able to vaccinate 10 individuals. Please call them to schedule an appointment.

The Moderna drug is a two-shot vaccine, meaning that a booster shot is necessary 28 days after the first shot. Those who are vaccinated will be given a card depicting the type of vaccine they received and when the booster shot can be given. It is imperative that both shots be received. Further, the drug cannot be intermingled with another drug, such as the Pfizer vaccine. The vaccine will be provided at no cost, although there may be an administration charge for those with insurance.

While vaccinations are totally voluntary, we highly recommend that everyone receive a vaccination. Even if you have previously been infected by the virus, you should still get the shot. This is our best chance to get this terrible pandemic under control. In order to establish herd immunity, we need 70% - 90% of the Milam County population to be vaccinated. We have been under the gun for almost a year and now we have a ticket to safety, so please do your part and get the shots!

Milam County COVID Testing Report for Tuesday, December 29, 2020:

We again have big testing numbers to report. We tested 74 individuals in Thorndale with 36 positive results. This is the most we have ever tested in Thorndale in a single day. In the last 29 days of testing we have now tested 1,268 individuals with 382 positive results, with an overall positivity rate of 30%. Tomorrow we will test in Milano at the Milano VFD from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. for any Milam County resident with COVID symptoms.

We have 50 new confirmed cases to report today; 22 new PCR cases and 28 new probable cases. An additional three individuals were hospitalized as well, raising the current hospitalizations to 18. Our Statewide hospitalizations reached a new record today, exceeding 11,000.

Milam County Cases as of Monday, December 28, 2020:

1. Confirmed PCR cases 885 up 17
2. Confirmed active PCR cases 56 – up 14
3. Confirmed probable (antigen) cases 547
4. Confirmed active probable cases 77 – up 19
5. Total confirmed cases in Milam County 133 – up 33
6. Currently monitored individuals 292 – down 7
7. Hospitalizations 18 – up 3
a. 4 persons on ventilators – down 1
b. Cumulative hospitalizations since the pandemic started 112
8. Deaths 11 – no change

In addition, the Health Department has about a 93-case backlog due to the holidays, meaning that these individuals, which we believe to be infected have not been verbally confirmed.

Texas Cases: Yesterday there were 9,563 new confirmed cases and 72 deaths in Texas.

1. Confirmed cases 1,727,983
2. Deaths: 27,282

USA Cases: Yesterday there were 168,817 new confirmed cases and 1,718 deaths in America.

1. Confirmed cases 19,526,228
2. Deaths 337,918

Help is truly on the way. We encourage everybody to get vaccinated!

Sincerely,

Steve Young
Milam County Judge

Texas continues to receive doses of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, and is distributing statewide to hospitals, pharmacies, local health departments, freestanding ERs and other clinics.

At the Rockdale Christian Services food pantry, we try to provide healthy food that the majority of our clients will enjoy. We realize that we cannot make everyone happy with our choices. We would suggest that if you receive something you don't like, check with your friends, maybe they do. Check with your neighbors, may they do. If you can't find anyone that wants it, bring it back. We'll give it to someone else.
