#HappyTailsThursday !!!
Do you know how long PAWS (Pet Adoption Welfare Services) has been assisting with animals in Rockdale? Thirty-three years!

This group makes it possible for our four-legged friends to find homes rather than face euthanasia. They are a great organization and we’re proud to be associated with them.

FDA Grants EUA to First COVID-19 Vaccine

Health experts say there is one thing that's critical for people to understand before they roll up their sleeves for the shots: While no major safety concerns have so far been reported, the vaccines may cause a few unwelcome side effects.

In Moderna's phase 3 vaccine trials, about 10 percent of participants experienced fatigue, roughly 9 percent reported muscle aches and about 5 percent had joint pain and headaches. Pfizer's phase 3 interim analysis documented fatigue in 3.8 percent of participants and headaches in 2 percent. Injection site pain was noted in both trials.

These reactions are “temporary,” and they “self-resolve” within a few days, says Wilbur Chen, M.D., a professor of medicine and chief of adult clinical studies at the Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health at the University of Maryland. Even so, it's “ultracritical” that health experts are transparent with the public about what to expect.

"Where a mistake could be made is in people being surprised or not being prepared for side effects,” adds William Moss, M.D., executive director of the International Vaccine Access Center at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Dec. 11 granted an emergency use authorization (EUA) to Pfizer and BioNTech’s coronavirus vaccine.

Rockdale Earth Day

Plant a tree in celebration of Texas Arbor Day, Friday, November 6th!

The state of Texas is steeped in traditions. One such example is Texas Arbor Day, which falls each year on the first Friday of November. In a year like no other, Rockdale Earth Day would like to begin a community tradition, by planting a few new trees 🌳 in our fine town. Plans are being finalized to do just that, this Friday, November 6. We would like to encourage businesses, churches, and homeowners to participate with us by planting a tree on your property, leaving a legacy for future years.

Community and Civic Organizations are the life-blood of Community Events and Revitalization Efforts.
While many of us have been involved in Youth Organizations, supporting our kids teams, few have given much thought to supporting the Community by being a part of Civic Organizations. Most Civic Organizations are non-profits, and depend upon Volunteer Members and Boards to achieve their various goals.
Merely joining as a Member helps provide much needed financial support to these various organizations. In fact, due to COVID, many organizations had to cancel or alter their normal Fundraising Events upon which the depend to fulfill their yearly objectives.
If you're willing to get a little more involved, inquire about serving on the organization's Board or on a Committee. Most leadership roles simply require you to attend a monthly meeting, and perhaps volunteer at an event or two each year.
Participating in a leadership role can be both fun and rewarding, are excellent resume builders, and can gain your business further marketing exposure! If you as the business owner can't participate, consider designating one of your employees. It's a great way to encourage their leadership skills as well.
See the comments for a few of the worthy Civic Organizations in Rockdale & their contacts.
These organizations deserve and appreciate your support!
They would welcome your participation as a Board or Committee member. Volunteers of all ages, abilities, experiences, and backgrounds are needed.
Take an active role in shaping the future of Rockdale -- Support Your Community by Joining Civic Organizations.
