Approximately 150 square feet, this post office served the town of Rockfish for over 70 years as a center of community news and information. Residents waited on the porch and inside for the train to transfer the mail each day. "Rockfish Depot" as it was once known, was a thriving town until the Soap Stone factory in Schuyler closed. The railroad spur to the quarry used to join the Norfolk Southern

Railway across the tracks from the post office. The PO has interior boxes in a Corbin cabinet with some of the Hamner's (the Waltons) as the last names on the tags. Surely this inspired Earl Hamner (the Waltons writer/creator) to embellish the town of Rockfish on the TV show. This PO is powered by solar panels that run a weather station http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KVAROCKF2
