Remembering and celebrating the life and legacy of Elsie M. Janson, former Executive Director of the Rockford Board of Election Commissioners.

Elsie dedicated 25 years of service to Rockford’s independent, nonpartisan election office, serving as Executive Director for six years. Her commitment to fair and honest elections, her integrity, and her dedication to public service left a lasting mark for future leaders of our office.

Her commitment to civic engagement extended beyond her professional life. Elsie was also an active member of the League of Women Voters, an organization dedicated to empowering voters and strengthening our democracy.

Thank you, Elsie, for your many years of service to Rockford, to voters, and to our democracy. Your dedication and example will be remembered with great appreciation and respect.

Just a reminder to our voters that have requested Vote by Mail Ballots. The USPS has made changes to their postmark procedures. Mail them back as soon as possible to avoid any issues. Our secure drop box is also available for City of Rockford Voters. Please reach out directly to our office with any questions at 815-987-5750 or visit our website at www.voterockfordil.gov for other election related information.

Important information for vote-by-mail voters 🚨
Mail postmark rules have changed. Ballots are now postmarked when processed, not when you drop them in the mailbox—this can cause 1–2 day delays.
If you’re returning your ballot close to Election Day:
• Request a manual postmark at the post office
• Use a secure drop box
• Deliver directly to your election office
Don’t risk a late postmark. Make sure your vote counts. 🗳️
