After many long weekends and hours of hard work, four of our recruit firefighters have graduated from the Illinois Fire Service Institute Fire Academy today. Congratulations Luis Quintana, Gus Olea, Maria Pino and Tucker Balmes on your accomplishment. In addition, Firefighter Sergio Mendoza finished his EMT course at Rock Valley successfully. Thank you ALL for your dedication to the Northwest Fire Protection District.

Northwest Firefighters conducted their weekly Monday Night training consisting of grassfire operations and vehicle function testing. Firefighter Colton Caskey and Firefighter David Hutson Jr. lead the instruction for Training going over pump functions and tactics for our grass truck, and rescue ATV

One of our newest recruits has made an early accomplishment. Recruit FF Maria Pino has embraced our district effort to provide better service to our community and the surrounding communities when she joined as an EMT student. Today, we received notice that after finishing her EMT course on Friday and sitting for the National Registry exam yesterday, she has passed and is now a National Registry Certified EMT. Recruit FF / EMT Pino will soon receive her Illinois license and function as an EMT out of station one. Her next challenge is the State of Illinois Basic Fire Operations and Advance Technician Firefighter courses. Congrats EMT Pino!

In an effort to provide better service to our community and the surrounding communities, our district staff have been working tirelessly to make their training efforts count and today, we want to share that Captain Kalen Truckenmiller and Deputy Chief Nick Jupin have successfully completed the OSF Paramedic course. This is a 9 month course that translates to approximately 43 credit hours of course work. These two will now do a minimum of 252 hours of provisional Paramedic internship time to be able to sit for their national exam to obtain state licensure.

Both personnel will continue to work on advanced certifications.

We NEED your help. We are in need of volunteer Firefighters and EMTs. No experience necessary. We will send you to training to get you state certified/licensed. Have you ever wondered how you could be involved in emergency services? This is your chance. Send an email of interest to [email protected] and get your answers!

Our greatest immediate need is recruitment of certified personnel that live within 5 mins of Central & Halsted or N. Main & Old River. If you live in these areas, please share with your neighbors too!

Northwest Fire and Northwest Rescue responded this morning for this emergency. On arrival, Chief 1290 reported a vehicle off the road in the ditch and WCSO was onscene and had made contact. The occupant was evaluated and it was determined there were no injuries and no continued medical need.

On 4/29 at approximately 10pm, Northwest Fire and Northwest Rescue were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on Owen Center and Tullocks Woods Dr. The driver of the vehicle lost control and left the roadway coming to rest in a private yard. There was heavy property damage to the vehicle and a large shed. The driver was checked and uninjured. Owen Center remained closed for an extended period of time while multiple tow trucks were used to recover the vehicle and the Northwest Fire engine protected property due to a fuel leak.
