On September 15, we'll celebrate the incredible achievements of our Life Recovery graduates. Leading up to Restoration Celebration, we'd like you to meet some of the individuals whose lives have been transformed through the program. This is Misty’s story.
“After years of family heartaches, crack co***ne
addiction and worse, today I’m reconnecting with
things I love: my family, of course, but also fishing,
nature walks and other things I enjoyed before my
addiction. Just sitting and watching a sunrise or sunset
—taking it all in and just being quiet, you know?
I’m also volunteering at various places to see if I still
have those interests. I’ve joined a church and have
a great family there. I’m remembering the things that
put a smile on my face, and discovering new things.
It’s like being a kid all over again. Above all, I’ve been
reconnecting with God. The staff and the program
here have shown me how to live life in a better way.
God has brought me peace and strength to take a
hard look at all of the stuff from my life that I needed
to process, just to find out who I am again.
He has given me a passion to share my story and help
others, too. Recently, I sat and talked with a woman
who came here because she was getting attacked
by her boyfriend. She was frightened and didn’t have
much hope. She was staying in the Crisis Center that
night, so I made her a card. It said, “Just know God’s
always there. You’re never alone, and you matter.”
When I saw her the next morning, she thanked me
and said, “Your card made such a difference.”
As I continue my own recovery, moments like that
give me joy. I feel that my gift is to share my story and
help others.”
Join us on Tuesday, September 15, for Mission Tours from 6-7 p.m. and our Restoration Celebration at 7 p.m. as we honor our Life Recovery graduates and the incredible stories of transformation they represent.
