On September 15, we'll celebrate the incredible achievements of our Life Recovery graduates. Leading up to Restoration Celebration, we'd like you to meet some of the individuals whose lives have been transformed through the program. This is Misty’s story.

“After years of family heartaches, crack co***ne
addiction and worse, today I’m reconnecting with
things I love: my family, of course, but also fishing,
nature walks and other things I enjoyed before my
addiction. Just sitting and watching a sunrise or sunset
—taking it all in and just being quiet, you know?

I’m also volunteering at various places to see if I still
have those interests. I’ve joined a church and have
a great family there. I’m remembering the things that
put a smile on my face, and discovering new things.

It’s like being a kid all over again. Above all, I’ve been
reconnecting with God. The staff and the program
here have shown me how to live life in a better way.
God has brought me peace and strength to take a
hard look at all of the stuff from my life that I needed
to process, just to find out who I am again.

He has given me a passion to share my story and help
others, too. Recently, I sat and talked with a woman
who came here because she was getting attacked
by her boyfriend. She was frightened and didn’t have
much hope. She was staying in the Crisis Center that
night, so I made her a card. It said, “Just know God’s
always there. You’re never alone, and you matter.”
When I saw her the next morning, she thanked me
and said, “Your card made such a difference.”
As I continue my own recovery, moments like that
give me joy. I feel that my gift is to share my story and
help others.”

Join us on Tuesday, September 15, for Mission Tours from 6-7 p.m. and our Restoration Celebration at 7 p.m. as we honor our Life Recovery graduates and the incredible stories of transformation they represent.

Our 815 Day Donation Drive exceeded its goal!

Thanks to your generosity, more than 202 bottles of laundry detergent were donated—well beyond our goal of 150.

Laundry detergent is one of those everyday essentials that makes a real difference for the men, women, and families we serve. This year's drive provided nearly half of our annual detergent needs, helping us care for guests in practical ways throughout the year.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared the need, or helped make this year's 815 Day Donation Drive a success. Your support will continue making an impact long after the drive has ended.

The Mission serves more than 350 meals every day, and donated food items help make those meals possible.

We'll be at the Winnebago County Fair again this year collecting canned food donations. On Wednesday, Aug. 19, you'll receive free fair admission for every 2 cans of food you donate.

Not only can you get in free, but you'll also help provide meals for neighbors in need right here in our community.

Share this post and invite others to join you!

“You need clean clothes to get out of the condition of homelessness” - Jason Men’s Crisis Guest.

It’s not just the gift itself, but the impact of the donation and what it means to the people your gift helps. The Mission needs over 350 bottles of laundry detergent each year to serve our guests and residents, and we want to fulfill the rest of the year's supply by collecting 150 bottles of detergent this year for 815 Day.

Items may be dropped off on weekdays 8am-4pm - 715 W. State Street

On September 15, we'll celebrate the incredible achievements of our Life Recovery graduates. Leading up to Restoration Celebration, we'd like you to meet some of the individuals whose lives have been transformed through the program. This is Mary’s story.

"I used to live under the gang code of “trust no one.”
And I paid dearly for that. I used drugs for more
than 30 years … went to prison five separate times,
all drug-related ... tried several detox programs but
nothing worked.

Finally, I just gave up on myself. I never thought I
would live into my 60s. But then everything changed
for me at Rockford Rescue Mission, and here I am. I
believe in me, and I believe God is making a way for
me to better myself. I love the Lord. He heard my cry.

The Life Recovery Program here is biblically based,
and that makes all the difference. The staff members
don’t just say they care; they show you every day. God
is using them to help me with things I never thought
I could accomplish. I’m close to getting my GED. I’m
learning typing. I’m learning new skills in the kitchen.
I’m getting along with my peers, too. That’s new for
me. We might have our days or our moments, but
we don’t stay stuck in those. I don’t stay stuck in my
madness anymore. I’m learning to trust again.

Most of all, I’m just grateful—grateful to still be alive and
to have hope. And it isn’t just for me. I can help other
people now, because a whole lot of people helped
me. When someone is going through something, a
little dilemma or problem, I can give them a shot of
hope. I can tell them, “Just hang in there, because it
gets better. It gets better.”"
