⚡️ Charge smarter. Save more.

If you’re part of WH’s Time of Use (TOU) Charging Program, you can get up to 50% off the general service rate when you charge your EV overnight between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

🚗 In this video, we’re showing Tesla owners how to set up a charging schedule so your vehicle charges during those lower-cost hours.

Every EV is a little different, so your charging schedule may look different depending on your vehicle. But the idea is the same: plug in, set your schedule and let your EV charge overnight. 🔋

Sparrow vs. Substation 🐦⚡

If you are around the Lake Sylvia area and experienced some unusual power issues recently, a tiny sparrow was the unexpected culprit.

The sparrow landed on the metal structure and contacting the energized equipment, creating a significant electrical fault.

Our system responded as designed, opening a protective fuse on the transmission line feeding the substation. This interrupted power to part of the system, which is why some members may have had power in part of their home while other areas were out, or noticed lights flickering or strobing.

We even have equipment like the cap shown above to discourage birds from landing in these areas. Unfortunately, this sparrow didn’t get the memo.

Our crews quickly identified the cause and safely restored power.

The takeaway? Even a sparrow can cause a significant outage. That’s why we have layers of protection and crews ready to respond when the unexpected happens.

⚡️ 8,000 hours later… Dan is officially a Journeyman Lineman!

After completing 8,000 hours of hands-on work, multiple workbooks, and testing in electrical theory, math and safety, Dan has officially earned his journeyman status.

Dan started at WH as a college intern, left when a full-time position wasn’t available, and came back when the opportunity opened up. Now, all those hours, studying and experience have paid off!

So, what changes? More independence, more advanced work and more responsibility. 💪⚡️

Congratulations, Dan! We’re proud to have you on the WH team. 🎉

Clearwater, have you spotted these poles around town?

They’re osprey poles! 🦅 Wright-Hennepin installs them to give these big birds a safe place to nest, and help prevent outages by keeping their nests off our power poles. ⚡️

A few fun facts:
🪽 Their wingspan can reach 6 feet!
🦅 They’re raptors that love to fish.
🏡 They’re protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, so active nests can’t be disturbed or moved.

So that “random” pole you see? It’s actually osprey housing + outage prevention. 😉🦅⚡️
