Grateful to be part of the Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellowship with the Hunt Institute — surrounded by leaders who understand something I’ve carried with me since my time on the Rockford Education Committee: you can’t talk about education without talking about mental health. They’re not separate conversations. A child can’t learn in a classroom if we’re not also caring for what’s going on in their mind.

Governor Jim Hunt said it best: “Education can’t be just another thing we do. It’s the most important thing we do.” I’d add this: you can’t do that work well if you’re not also caring for the whole person. That’s why I’ve sat on the Higher Education Committee in Springfield — because opportunity isn’t just about access to a classroom. It’s about making sure our kids and our communities have what they need to actually be well enough to use it.

Creating opportunities everywhere, for everyone.

This morning I had the honor of providing opening remarks at the 9th Annual Educators’ Summit.

This event brings together hundreds of teachers and professionals from across various social work fields for important conversations and learning from experts on topics related to domestic violence and youth development.

It’s a horrible reality that far too many young people are exposed to domestic violence situations. But everyone gathered today will leave better prepared to make a difference in the lives of our youth.

I got the opportunity to stop by A Place of Prayer Community Outreach’s Backpacks and Blessings event at Gethsemane Christian Church. It was an incredible turnout as families got the chance to partake in food and fellowship, community resource tables, a school supply distribution, and free haircuts. Such a great event!

Today, I was out at Macedonia Baptist Church as part of the Kevin D. Rice Sr. Memorial Bike Ride and Picnic. This annual event transforms tragedy into purpose by bringing riders, families, and community members together to remember Kevin’s legacy. I was proud to present a certificate of recognition & memorial tribute to his family to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his passing.

Happy Birthday to my rock, my forever partner in this, my wife-Leslie West. 🎂❤️

Today I celebrate the woman who has stood beside me through every season — the late nights, the hard calls, the moments doubt tried to creep in. Your leadership at home is the reason I can lead in Springfield, and it’s the same strength that will carry us through this next chapter for Rockford.

You don’t just support the vision — you help build it. Every door I’ve knocked on, every community meeting, every fight for our city — you’ve been right there, believing before I even had the words to ask.

Rockford doesn’t know yet how much of what they see in me, they owe to you.

I love you. Happy Birthday, Leslie. Here’s to everything we’re building together. ❤️❤️❤️

I’m proud to announce millions of dollars in FY27 state funding secured for the 67th District. 🏛️

I stood with community organizations and local leaders at Jefferson-Horton Post 340 American Legion to share this news, because this funding is about them — the folks doing the work every day to lift up our neighbors.

This round of investments touches nearly every corner of our community:
🔹 Jefferson-Horton Post 340 American Legion
🔹 Think Big!
🔹 City of Loves Park
🔹 Village of Cherry Valley
🔹 Victory Homes Cooperative
🔹 Kee Solutions
🔹 City of Rockford
🔹 Crusader Community Health
🔹 Boys & Girls Club of Rockford
🔹 Rockford Park District
🔹 YMCA Rock River Valley
🔹 YWCA Northwestern Illinois
🔹 Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence
🔹 Rockford Public Library
🔹 North Suburban Library
🔹 Cherry Valley Public Library

Plus statewide funding for the Home Modification Program, the Pretrial Success Act, and free healthy meals in schools.

This year’s budget made thoughtful cuts to enhance efficiency while focusing on investments that support families with kitchen table issues — education, healthcare, and public safety.

Locally, I was able to secure resources that support our veterans, enhance youth development, build small business capacity, and combat crime.

These investments are critical to supporting our neighbors and uplifting the diverse communities that make the Rockford region strong. 🙌

Spending yesterday afternoon with the young people at the RAMP Summer Camp reminded me why this work matters.

Sharing my story, talking civic engagement, and watching these future leaders think about what they want to stand for — that’s the kind of afternoon that fills your cup.

Keep speaking up, RAMP. The world needs your voice. ✨

What a weekend! The Rhythm of the Heart Music Festival brought our community together for a full day of live music, food trucks, car shows, and fireworks lighting up the sky. It’s always an honor to be out in the crowd with the people I serve, celebrating everything that makes this community special.

🇺🇸 As we continue to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, we’re reminded that our nation’s story is still being written—and each of us has a role in shaping what comes next.

It was an honor to join Hello Nation for a conversation about the 67th District, the City of Rockford, and the work we’re doing to build stronger, more connected communities. While 250 years is a remarkable milestone, it’s also a reminder that the pursuit of a more just, equitable, and prosperous future continues.

The progress we’ve made as a nation is worth celebrating, but our responsibility doesn’t end there. The work continues. The fight for opportunity, access, and a better quality of life for every family continues. And here in the 67th District, I’m committed to doing that work every single day.

Thank you to Hello Nation for the opportunity to share our story and highlight the people who make Rockford such a resilient and inspiring community.
