AARC at Booker Grand Re-opening was inspiring! The theme was Legacy in Motion and, for me, it means that Booker is not afraid to dare greatly and rebrand themselves after 110 years of existence!

That’s legacy and leadership! I look forward to witnessing the impact this rebrand brings for our community.

Congrats AARC (African American Resource Center at Booker) at Booker!

What a powerful morning at the Rise Breakfast with Rock River Valley Pantry!

For more than 50 years, Rock River Valley Pantry has been fighting hunger right here in Rockford. It all started in 1973 with one Rock Valley College student collecting food for families in need. Today, it’s a lifeline for thousands of households across our community.

Every month, the Pantry provides four days of nutritious, balanced meals to families facing unexpected hardship: children, seniors, veterans and working families, all served with dignity and respect. With two locations open five days a week, a small but mighty staff and a dedicated team of volunteers, they show up for us every single day.

Hunger doesn’t always look the way we expect. Rock River Valley Pantry meets people where they are and reminds them they are not alone. That is what community looks like.

Thank you to the staff, volunteers, donors and partners who made this morning possible, and who carry this mission all year long.

It was a privilege to visit and speak with the students of Lewis Lemon Elementary about my work in Springfield. 📚

From explaining how a bill becomes a law to what it means to represent Rockford at the Capitol, these students came prepared with insightful questions and big ideas. Our future leaders are already engaged, and that's something to be proud of.

Thanks to the students, teachers, and staff for the warm welcome.

I was so grateful to be able to participate alongside community heroes today at Washington Elementary School. It was an inspiring celebration that encouraged our students to dream about the heroes that they want to be.

I’m also now proud to represent team Amistad and be part of the Washington Elementary family: Four Houses. One Family.

Today, we delivered hundreds of diapers, wipes, rash cream, toothbrushes, and more to The Baby Bank, and my heart is full.

To everyone who gave, thank you. Whether you dropped off a single pack of diapers or filled a whole box, every item mattered. Your generosity means families across our community will have a little more of what they need to care for our youngest neighbors.

A huge thank you to The Baby Bank for the work you do every day to support parents and little ones right here at home. We are grateful to stand alongside you.

We pray for the ten or more neighbors who were taken from Rockford today, and give thanks for everyone out on the streets tonight protesting. Join us and believe in a better future, and share Know Your Rights guides in Southeast Rockford

Federal immigration agents, ICE, have been identified in our city, and they are taking our neighbors from their families.
No child in our city should ever have to go to bed wondering where their mother or father is.

I will say it plainly: this is wrong, and I stand against it. Rockford was built by working families, many of them immigrants. We are all Rockford, every single one of us.
To every family living with this fear tonight: you are not alone. You have rights. I stand with all families. All I them.
