Don't forget to join us for our Nature on Tap lecture series, partnered with NIU STEAM! On September 8th, meet us at Lucha Cantina for an engaging conversation about rewilding efforts on and off campus in the 815.

Dr. Courtney Gallaher, Director of NIU Campus Sustainability, will showcase the transformation of the North 40 at NIU to natural prairie and discuss the impact the project has on the local community. Liz Wiener, Public Programs Coordinator at Wild Roots Nature Center, will discuss efforts made in Rockford through Wild Roots' purchase of the former Elliot Golf Course. Finally, leave with practical knowledge on how you can support rewilding in your own backyard.

The average sea surface just hit an all time record high of 70°F, which is much higher that it’s typical average of a comfortable 60°F-68°F. This type of news should be sounding alarms everywhere.

Even though Illinois is an inland state, our weather is still deeply affected by the ocean. Severe storms, intense downpours, and increase in frequency of tornadoes are all effects of a warming ocean.

As the ocean continues to warm, we can expect to see more intense severe weather events and milder winters in the Midwest. Globally, we can expect to see catastrophic changes in ocean currents, weather patterns, and sea rise, which affect everyone, and everything, on the planet.

Our average sea level temperature rising is a blaring warning that our planet needs action, and needs action now.
