Highway Department Blizzard Update- Day 5 – The Highway Dept. remains fully deployed to address storm cleanup. We received an official notification that we had 32” of snow. The Highway Dept and other crews have already logged over 1,500 hours in storm response and cleanup, and we will continue to attend to cleanup for the foreseeable future. the plan for remainder of this week and next week is to work on widen roads, sidewalks, bus stop locations and cutting down any high piles of snow. Please be patient with the crew as this will take time. As always, use caution when going out.

The Highway Department is receiving an abundant number of calls per hour so to save everybody time here are the responses to some of your most common questions.

Q: The plow left some snow at the end of my driveway. Can you send someone to come and plow it out?
A: No. There are thousands of driveways in the Town, and it is not practical for the Highway crews to clear the ends of driveways.

Q: The hydrant near my house is buried. Will the Highway Dept. clear it out?
A: No. While we do encourage everyone to clear the hydrants near your property.

Q: My mailbox was knocked over. Will it be replaced?
A: The Highway Department will repair or replace any mailbox that was physically struck by a plow. Replacements will be made with a standard mailbox and post. Decorative or designer mailboxes, and granite posts will be replaced with a standard box and wood post. Please note that it may take several weeks for us to begin to address mailbox issues.

Q: My fence was knocked over. Will it be replaced?
A: The Highway Department will repair or replace any fence that was physically struck by a plow, please note that it may take several weeks for us to begin to address fence issues.

Thank you for your continued patience.

STORM UPDATE

Well that was a doozy….
Crews were out last night until the late hours.
Today we will be pushing back all the main roads and hills and will follow up with treatment. Larger equipment will be brought in for heavy push backs There are still a lot of secondary and side roads that will need some widening and touch ups as well. We will cleanup all Town buildings and then proceed to start walks by schools.

Heavy snow with blizzard conditions most of the duration. Smaller equipment couldnt keep up and by the end of the storm we were down to about 2/3 a work force.

Today we will have all main roads and hills in good shape and the secondaries scraped. We are still in conservative mode on Salt due ti shortage, so bear with us.

Thankyou for your patience

The Town of Rockland continues to experience snowfall, and the Blizzard Warning remains in effect through Tuesday morning. Snow‑removal operations will continue overnight. The Governor’s Travel Ban and the Town‑wide Parking Ban remain in effect. Vehicles left on the street may be towed.

Rockland Public Schools, Rockland Daycare, and all non‑essential Town buildings, including Town Hall, Rockland Memorial Library, Rockland Council On Aging and Community Center @ McKinley Building will remain closed on Tuesday, February 24th.

If you can stay home, please do so. As you begin clearing your property, please shovel safely: take frequent breaks, push snow instead of lifting when possible, and avoid overexertion. Keep walkways and steps clear, but do NOT shovel snow into the street. If you’re able, helping with nearby sidewalks or hydrants is a huge support to the community.

Please check on neighbors who may need assistance.

Thank you for your cooperation and community spirit as we work together to dig out from this storm.

We would like to thank our snow crews who have been salting and plowing through the storm. Snow crews arrived on site yesterday and are still going Please note Governor Maura Healey has signed an Executive Order placing an immediate ban on non-essential motor vehicle travel in Bristol, Plymouth, and Barnstable counties due to the blizzard and dangerous road conditions Please do not place any snow on the roads as this is a hazard and is impending snow operations.

SNOW UPDATE

Well here we go again….

Storm looks to arrive between 8pm and 10pm tonight. Looks to continue overnight into the day and end sometime late tomorrow evening. Expected snow totals are between 18-24 inches. We are expected to have blizzard conditions, which could lead to heavy precipitation per hour and high winds which could produce down trees and wires. We have to plan for worst and hope for best.

All Town buildings will be closed tomorrow.
Trash and recycling are delayed.
Parking ban is in effect from from 4pm today until Tuesday morning, 8am.

To help assist with snow operations:
Please have all vehicles and obstacles removed from Town format.
Please stay off the road if you can, and be safe.
