Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is TODAY—Saturday, August 15, starting at 9 AM at the Rockland Transfer Station (400 Limerock Street).
REMINDER:
This is your chance to safely dispose of hazardous items and help keep Rockland clean and safe!
🔹 For Rockland residents only—please bring your transfer station sticker or proof of residency.
🔹 1 unit FREE per resident (5 gallons or 20 pounds of hazardous waste). Additional units: $35 each.
🔹 Latex paint and architectural finishes are FREE and don’t count toward your unit!
Wondering what counts as hazardous waste? Here are some examples:
- Paints (oil/alkyd & latex), stains, thinners, paint st*****rs
- Solvents, varnishes, adhesives, rubber cement
- Waste fuels, engine degreaser, brake fluid, antifreeze, oils
- Pesticides, insecticides, w**d killers, moth balls
- Hobby & artist supplies, photography chemicals, cleaners, drain openers
- Swimming pool chemicals, aerosol cans (no empty containers), driveway sealers (oil base only)
- Old fire extinguishers, compressed gas cylinders, smoke/carbon monoxide detectors
❌ Please DO NOT bring:
- Asbestos (call ME DEP at 1-800-452-1942 or EPI at 786-7390)
- Commercial/industrial waste (Call ME DEP at 1-800-452-1942 or EPI at 1-877- 846-0447)
- Infectious & biological waste (Call your local Hospital for instructions on how to dispose)
- PCB ballasts, thermometers, thermostats
