Press Release from the Rockledge Police Department

On Sunday, August 16th, 2026 around 9:00pm Rockledge Police Officers responded to the 7/11 at Murrell Road and Eyster Boulevard. Reportedly, a suspect wearing all black with a face mask had jumped the counter, battered the clerk, and stolen money from the cash register. Good Samaritans attempted to intervene but the suspect fled on foot. Road Patrol Officers, with assistance from the Brevard County Sheriffโ€™s Office, searched the area and developed leads that were passed to our Investigators the next day. Rockledge Investigators worked diligently on the case throughout the day Monday (August 17th), gathering more evidence and information. Last night, around 10:00pm a warrant was served by our Emergency Response Team at a residence in the Emerald Hills subdivision. Evidence from the crime was located and the suspect, Mr. Dontavious James (23 years old), was taken into custody for Robbery (No Firearm or Weapon) and Battery. I want to commend our Rockledge Police Department Officers and Investigators on their professional and thorough investigation. Criminal conduct such as this is not tolerated in the City of Rockledge.

Attached, you will find video of the incident and Mr. Jamesโ€™ booking photo.

This is an open and active investigation and no further comment will be provided at this time. Should anyone have any information regarding this incident please contact Investigator Anthony Davis @ 321-690-3988.

*All suspects are innocent until proven guilty*

A 43-acre prescribed fire within the Helen and Allan Scrub Sanctuary is planned from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, by Brevard Countyโ€™s Environmentally Endangered Lands Program with assistance from cooperating agencies.

The Sanctuary is located at 326 Barnes Blvd #300, Rockledge, and the burn will be conducted on the west boundary of the sanctuary, near the Chelsea Park subdivision. Some temporary trail closures of the Red Trail will be necessary for safety and will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so.

Prescribed fires involve the careful application of fire by professionals under specific weather and fuel conditions to achieve environmental resource management goals. Benefits include the reduction of wildfire risk, habitat restoration and the recycling of nutrients back into the soil.

For more information, please contact Evan Hall at (321) 604-9996.
