The Gathering Inn's mission is to meet people where they are, inspire hope, and walk alongside them on their journey to sustainable housing. In its 19th year of operation, TGI offers a complete continuum of housing and supportive services for homeless individuals: emergency housing; medical respite care; permanent supportive housing; external housing placement; comprehensive support services; education and training; and aftercare follow-up. Not only does The Gathering Inn exist to fulfill the original mission and vision of our founders, but it also builds on that foundation by expanding services that address barriers to housing. The lives of TGI guests are transformed by inspiring self-sufficiency and inviting them to achieve sustainable housing. At The Gathering Inn, we are committed to maintaining a space that is consistent with kindness, dignity, and respect for all especially the individuals we serve. We understand there are many questions regarding our Medical Respite Program. For questions not yet addressed there, we are collecting them and will post responses in an FAQ before the program opens. Comments that are unkind, disrespectful, or not aligned with our mission will be removed. Thank you for helping us keep this a space that reaches out and lifts up.

Serve Partner Saturday: Meet Virgil!

“Growing up, we were taught to care for our neighbors. It's not as literal as just our physical neighbors.”

For more than 45 years, Virgil has lived by those words!

An active member of Placer People of Faith Together Placer People of Faith Together and a familiar face at our MTS program, Virgil brings something special to every visit.

Through his “Clowning with the Rev” activities, he fills the room with games, laughter, and smiles. But his compassion extends to life's more difficult moments, too. Virgil also helps facilitate memorial services, ensuring members of our community are honored with dignity and care.

Whether he's sharing a laugh, lending an ear, or offering comfort during times of grief, Virgil reminds us what it means to be a good neighbor.

Building Confidence, One Interview at a Time

Sometimes the biggest hurdle to finding a job isn't experience. It's having the confidence to walk into an interview.

Through Employment Readiness, guests at The Gathering Inn's MTS program are building skills to prepare for the workforce, from résumé writing and mock interviews to learning how to confidently share their strengths.

Each week, guests have a supportive space to practice, ask questions, receive feedback, and prepare for new opportunities.

And it's making a difference! Participants have gone on to secure and maintain employment, gaining confidence and greater independence along the way.

It's about more than finding a job. It's about building the skills and confidence to take the next step toward sustainable housing. 💜

💜 Hope & Healing | Behind the Care

Over the past few weeks, we've shared stories of guests who faced cancer while experiencing homelessness. Each experience was different, but they shared a common need: a safe place to focus on their health.

For individuals experiencing homelessness, a serious diagnosis can bring challenges that extend far beyond medical appointments. Having somewhere to rest, recover, and receive support can make an incredible difference.

The Gathering Inn was also among the first 15 organizations nationwide to receive medical respite certification in 2023.

As Rebecca, Director, Medical Respite, shares:

"We're seeing a significant increase in the number of people facing cancer. Once accepted into Medical Respite, treatment often begins soon after. We're honored to walk alongside our guests and offer the love, dignity, and respect they deserve."

As we close this series, we want to recognize our wonderful Medical Respite team. Behind every appointment, every recovery milestone, and every moment of encouragement are dedicated people who care deeply about the guests they serve.

As temperatures begin to drop, The Gathering Inn is in immediate need of blankets to help keep our guests warm and comfortable.

We are calling on our incredible community for support! If you have new or gently used, clean blankets to donate, your generosity can make an immediate difference for someone experiencing homelessness.

💜 Hope & Healing | Stories from Medical Respite

Some stories stay with us, and Matt's is certainly one of them.

When Matt was referred to The Gathering Inn's Medical Respite program, he was living in his car and preparing to begin chemotherapy for an aggressive pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

Despite the uncertainty ahead, Matt hadn't lost his sense of humor. After purchasing an older convertible Mercedes, he joked, "If I'm starting chemo, I'm doing it in style."

Behind that humor was someone facing a serious illness without the security of a place to call home.

Our Medical Respite program provided Matt with a safe, supportive environment where he could focus on his health while navigating the challenges of cancer treatment.

For someone facing a diagnosis like Matt's, having a place to rest, recover, and receive support can make an enormous difference. 💜

💜 Hope & Healing | Stories from Medical Respite

Some journeys are worth sharing again.

When Hussein came to The Gathering Inn's Medical Respite program, he was facing Stage 4 metastatic cancer while experiencing homelessness. With compassionate care, resources, and a safe place to heal, he was able to focus on his health and recovery.

After multiple surgeries, Hussein received life-changing news:
He was cancer-free!

He later moved into his own rental home, beginning a new chapter filled with independence, hope, and the comfort of having a place to call his own.

For Hussein, having a safe place to recover meant he could focus on what mattered most: getting well. 💜

💙 Meet Manny, better known to our guests as “Coach”!

Manny is a valued member of our Mid-Placer team, known for his patience, compassion, and genuine connection with guests.

Through his kindness, encouragement, and consistency, “Coach” has built meaningful relationships and earned the trust of those he supports.

And as an added bonus, Manny also lends a helping hand by driving the bus for our South Placer program, safely transporting guests to one of our wonderful church partners for overnight shelter.

To our guests, he’s Coach. To us, he’s an incredible team member, and we’re grateful for all he does! 💙

💜 A Father’s Determination. A Family’s New Beginning.

When Kyle arrived at The Gathering Inn with his children, he had one goal: to build a more secure future for his family.

With determination, support from his case manager, and access to resources, Kyle began taking meaningful steps toward finding a place they could call home.

Today, Kyle and his children are housed through Home Start and embracing a new chapter filled with possibility!
