At approximately 6:18 AM this morning, Rockport Fire Department was dispatched to the 1200 block of S. Church St. for a reported single-story residential structure fire with smoke showing from the rear of the residence.

Chief 1 arrived first on scene and reported heavy fire in the interior and rear portion of the structure. Rockport Fire Department Engine 1 arrived shortly after and initiated an aggressive fire attack, bringing the fire under control in a short period of time despite heavy winds.

Mutual aid departments including Fulton, Lamar, and Aransas Pass Fire Departments arrived shortly after and assisted crews with extinguishment and overhaul operations.

The residence sustained extensive damage to the rear of the structure, firefighters were able to save the home and prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby garage immediately west of the residence, which suffered only minor heat exposure.

At the time of the fire, no one was home. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported to civilians or emergency personnel.

We would like to thank all responding agencies for their quick response and teamwork this morning.

Hope to see you there
