At 7:44 PM this evening, the Rockport Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a possible ship fire at Hook & Bull Marina in Cove Harbor South.

Upon arrival, Chief 1 found two 35-foot vessels fully involved and multiple additional vessels threatened due to their close proximity. Mutual aid was immediately requested from the Fulton and Lamar Fire Departments.

Rockport Engine 1 arrived first due, followed shortly by Tanker 1. Crews quickly deployed a master stream operation and focused on protecting the surrounding vessels and preventing the fire from spreading further throughout the marina. Thanks to the rapid actions of responding firefighters, the primary threat was brought under control and the fire was successfully contained to the two vessels that were fully involved upon arrival.

While the two vessels were a total loss, damage to neighboring boats was limited to smoke and heat exposure only. Firefighters remain on scene conducting overhaul and mop-up operations in the rain to ensure all remaining hot spots are extinguished.

I would like to thank the members of the Rockport, Fulton, and Lamar Fire Departments for their teamwork and professionalism under challenging conditions. Incidents involving vessels and marinas present unique hazards, and tonight’s outcome reflects the dedication, training, and cooperation of all agencies involved.

On behalf of the officers and members of the Rockport Volunteer Fire Department, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Tom and Cassie Bell, Bell Air Conditioning and Heating, Tyler William Woodcraft, Aransas Glass Company, and Liberty Art for answering the call when our department needed help.

When Tom Bell learned that our department was in need of a new conference table for our Central Station officer meeting room, he did not hesitate. With the support and craftsmanship of the individuals and businesses listed above, they not only funded the project but personally designed and built a beautiful, one-of-a-kind custom conference table that will serve our department for many years to come.

This incredible act of generosity is a reminder that protecting our community is not accomplished by volunteer firefighters alone. It is made possible by the men and women of this community who step forward, lend their talents, contribute their resources, and support those who serve. The strength of our department is built upon the strength of the community that stands behind it.

From all of us at the Rockport Volunteer Fire Department, thank you for your outstanding generosity, craftsmanship, and commitment to the people of Rockport and the surrounding communities. Your support does not go unnoticed, and we are truly grateful.

At approximately 6:18 AM this morning, Rockport Fire Department was dispatched to the 1200 block of S. Church St. for a reported single-story residential structure fire with smoke showing from the rear of the residence.

Chief 1 arrived first on scene and reported heavy fire in the interior and rear portion of the structure. Rockport Fire Department Engine 1 arrived shortly after and initiated an aggressive fire attack, bringing the fire under control in a short period of time despite heavy winds.

Mutual aid departments including Fulton, Lamar, and Aransas Pass Fire Departments arrived shortly after and assisted crews with extinguishment and overhaul operations.

The residence sustained extensive damage to the rear of the structure, firefighters were able to save the home and prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby garage immediately west of the residence, which suffered only minor heat exposure.

At the time of the fire, no one was home. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported to civilians or emergency personnel.

We would like to thank all responding agencies for their quick response and teamwork this morning.
