Much of the Washington area, indeed many across the US, were saddened recently to hear of the passing of one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time...Morgan Wootten. TV stations and newspapers had plenty of stories by and about Morgan, but my favorite of all time was in his acceptance speech during his induction into the Montgomery Blair HS Alumni Hall of Fame. I provided 4-camera video coverage of the event and have isolated this part of the ceremony. BTW, he was introduced by one of his former students, James Brown of NFL Today on CBS.

Morgan Wootten, renowned basketball coach at DeMatha High School in Maryland, was inducted in the first group of his alma mater's Alumni Association Hall of…

"I want to thank you for all your hard work on this, and for your prior work on Sarah's Bat Mitzvah. The arrangements for these events all have their value, but nothing is as special as being able to go back in time with this video and relive the moment, see the children as they were then (and relatives who may not be with us when this video is viewed years from now), etc. I know we paid you, but what you've done is really priceless!" — Father of three daughters whose Bat Mitzvah services and celebrations I documented.
It's nice to hear this from someone else, after I've been telling people for so many years about the importance of video.

(I thought I posted this before, but don't see it here!)

Here is one of their videos...

Nine years ago, Shana Newman Fajardo and Oliver Fajardo were wed at the Comus Inn in Dickerson, MD. I was privileged to be the videographer who documented that rainy day and evening.

Today, on their ninth anniversary, I uploaded their Highlights clip to Vimeo and put the link (https://vimeo.com/235825028) on Oliver's post. Shortly thereafter, I got the following from Shana:

"Oh Allan! Thank you for sharing this! Can you believe it's been 9 years? Feels like yesterday sometimes...

And I couldn't be happier to have had you capturing it all! Tonight I was giving all three kiddos a bath and as soon as they heard me play the video, they all hopped out of the tub dripping wet to watch. The real highlight for me was watching their faces at different moments of the video - and my oldest putting his arm around my shoulder, saying "it's okay mom, don't cry. I love this."

Thanks again Allan - I'm so glad we have remained connected through the years and again so glad to have had you capturing our wedding!!"

Reactions like this reaffirm my conviction of the power of video for capturing life's biggest moments.

College friends take it up a notch on a rainy evening at the Comus Inn. Posted on the occasion of their 9th wedding anniversary!

Back to back weekends with special weddings! This time, it was a high school girls' lacrosse coach who went forward with something special that I suggested in one of our very first conversations. Samantha had close to 40 of her present and former players form a tunnel of crossed lacrosse sticks for the recessional. What she didn't know was that I recruited a player to give her a tushie tap with her stick as Samantha exited the tunnel. Watch the lady on the right in the apricot dress reach out to apply the tap. Keep watching as she adlibbed a second tap of a bridesmaid who had just graduated!

Wow! Has it been so long since I last posted? I guess I was waiting for something as great as this Best Man's Toast. Drew wrote and performed the rap to the surprise of everyone (except his parents). I'd say this was the best toast I've recorded in 30 years since I started shooting Super-8 movies of weddings. What do you think?

Haven't posted in a while, but wanted to show a picture that one of my recent brides sent me. They had fallen in love in Paris and placed a lock on the famous lock bridge over the Seine. A year ago, Jacob proposed to Debbie at that very spot. Following their wedding in late June at the Rose Hill Manor in Leesburg, they went back to Paris on their honeymoon (see a pattern here?). They found their lock with the intent to bring it back with them, since some cities have been cutting them off before the extra weight damages the bridges. Imagine my surprise at their choice of a key ring for this special moment!

BTW, this was the second wedding I did with my raw footage package...no Highlights to post.
