After more than 33 years of dedicated sworn service, Lieutenant Kenneth Matney has retired from the Rockville City Police Department. Throughout his distinguished career, Lt. Matney served in numerous divisions and roles, always demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the community.
He is especially well‑known and deeply respected for his years as the Community Services Officer, where he attended countless community events and worked tirelessly to build meaningful relationships with the residents and visitors of Rockville. His efforts strengthened trust, fostered connection, and reinforced the department’s partnership with the community.
Lt. Matney also proudly served as a motorman for the department, further showcasing his versatility, skill, and dedication to service. He served as an evening shift supervisor at the rank of Sergeant before being promoted to Lieutenant, where he was assigned to the Administrative Services Bureau. In that role, he oversaw CALEA accreditation, Training Services, and Neighborhood Services. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as the nightshift patrol operations commander.
Lt. Matney’s contributions to the City of Rockville and the Rockville City Police Department have been truly invaluable. The men and women of the department extend their heartfelt congratulations to Lt. Matney on his well‑deserved retirement and offer their deepest gratitude for his decades of outstanding service.
