The Upper Room PTSD Support Group

The Upper Room PTSD Support Group The Upper Room is a faith-based, peer support group for survivors of trauma. Meets at St. Patrick's Parish Ctr (Rockville MD) final Wed each month at 730p.

In the aftermath of Christ’s crucifixion, the disciples gathered in the Upper Room and wondered what they should do next. They were traumatized by the events that led up to and resulted in the death of Jesus and didn’t know where to turn. "On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and

said to them, 'Peace be with you.'
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. [Jesus] said to them again, 'Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.' And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the holy Spirit.'"
— John 20: 19-21

It was only through the Peace of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit that the disciples were able to get past their fear and begin their new ministry spreading the Good News of Christ’s resurrection. Our goal is to create the same kind of safe place that the Apostles had and pray for the Holy Spirit to send His healing Grace and give us the strength to push past PTSD.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Woke up with a church hymn I haven’t heard in years in my head, and just realized it’s the feast of Our Lady of Fatima. So I thought I’d post the lyrics:

“Turn to me, O turn, and be saved,
says the Lord, for I am God
there is no other, none beside me.
I call your name.
I am God, who comforts you
who are you to be afraid of flesh that fades,
is made like the grass of the field,
soon to wither.
Turn to me, O turn, and be saved,
says the Lord, for I am God
there is no other, none beside me.
I call your name.
Lift up your eyes to the heavens,
and look at the earth down below.
The heavens will vanish like smoke,
and the earth will wear out like a garment.
Turn to me, O turn, and be saved,
says the Lord, for I am God
there is no other, none beside me.
I call your name.”
