Yesterday, the Montgomery County Council unanimously approved the 2026-2029 contract between Montgomery County and the MCVFRA.

This agreement represents an important investment in Montgomery County’s volunteer fire and rescue system and supports the volunteers who respond to emergencies, staff stations, train, and serve communities across the County every day.

The agreement includes enhancements related to:

Great day today at our Public Safety Training Academy in Gaithersburg where we had the absolute pleasure to brief our newest high school cadet program members about all the volunteer opportunities within MCFRS and our 19 local volunteer fire departments and rescue squads.

We have 40 high school juniors and seniors from 20 different MC high schools! 27 training to be EMTs and 13 firefighter/EMTs.

The class impressed us with their dedication, attention and many questions expressing their desire to serve!

Our cadet program combines MCPS, MCFRS, the PSTA and our awesome instructors, and the MCVFRA who wrote and received 2 federal grants for over $600,000 to train high school student to become volunteer and career fighters!

Do you know a Montgomery County public high school sophomore interested in fire/rescue and EMS willing to take our challenge? If so please reach out to our Recruiter Lisa Summers at [email protected] or visit JoinFireRescue.com today!

A moped injury left Ed Levien vulnerable and grateful to strangers for their help. That led him to his second, and most meaningful, act — as an EMT.
