Our schools are one of the main reasons families choose to live in Montgomery County. We must restore trust between MCPS and the community while ensuring that every dollar of our $3.7 billion investment is focused on helping every student reach their full potential.

Montgomery County Council member Evan Glass says the school system’s budget process is broken.

This morning I joined Moms Demand Action for a sign-waving event in Rockville to demand an end gun violence during National Gun Violence Awareness Weekend.

Gun violence is a public health crisis and a policy failure. While too many elected officials continue to stand in the way of commonsense gun safety measures, advocates across Maryland and the country are refusing to stay silent.

Thank you to the volunteers, organizers and activists who continue showing up, speaking out and fighting for safer communities.

Today is National Gun Violence Awareness Day, a day we honor the lives lost to gun violence and stand with the survivors, families and communities forever changed by it.

That's why I was proud to pass the Su***de Awareness and Firearm Safety (S.A.F.E.) Act, which helps make our communities safer by strengthening protections to keep guns out of the hands of those who pose a danger to themselves or others.

Gun violence is preventable. We owe it to every child, every family, and every resident to keep fighting for common-sense solutions that save lives.

This was a big one. My ICE Out Act is now signed into law.

Thank you to We Are CASA, Montgomery County Immigrant Rights Collective and more for working with me to get this done.

This legislation was important to me. We need our county to reflect our values, and we need to guarantee our immigrant neighbors can rest easy in the community they've chosen to call home.

We will never allow privately owned immigration detention centers in Montgomery County.

“Our teachers, our parents, and our staff should not have to go through this year after year, waiting for ever-changing budgets to see how they get impacted, some of them for their livelihoods,” Glass said. “We need more transparency, we need more accountability and we need more oversight.”

Evan Glass is calling for reforms to the county school board’s budget process as board members face a decision on whether to cut positions
