Mark your calendars for the annual Texas Night Out! If you would like to have your neighborhood participate and have officers stop by during the event, please contact Ofc. C. Bennett at [email protected].

National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” was introduced by the National Association of Town Watch in 1984. This annual event was traditionally held in August, but in 2008, the Texas Police Chiefs Association requested that this event be moved to the first Tuesday of October due to the extreme Texas heat. Every year, thousands of Rockwall residents participate in Texas Night Out by turning on their porch lights, locking their doors and spending the evening outside with their neighbors. Many communities plan block parties, cookouts, and parades. Each community event within the city is attended by Rockwall Police Department officers. This community-based event is designed to unite citizens of Rockwall against crime, reinforce community-police partnerships and strengthen neighborhood spirit.

During the summer watering season, April 1 through October 31, residents are expected to practice smart, efficient watering. Spray irrigation systems may be used up to two days per week and should not operate between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Remember, two days per week, maximum. Water using the cycle and soak method to help water reach the root zone and reduce runoff.

Additional watering may be done as needed using a hand-held hose with a shutoff nozzle, dedicated drip irrigation zones, or soaker hoses, as long as no runoff occurs.
