From Street Clothes to Turnout Gear! 👩‍🚒

Meet Zoe Crabtree!

Position: President & Firefighter

Years in the Fire Service: 3

When asked why she wanted to be a firefighter she said:

She has been around the fire service since she was born, and she has always loved serving her community. Her Papaw Larry and her dad Matt, were both involved in helping build West Roane Vol. Fire Dept., so the fire department has always been a big part of her life. She says growing up around the fire service has shown her what it means to serve others, work as a team, and be there for your community when people need you most.
She said “I love serving my community, and I am grateful to have a fire family that has always made me feel like I belong. Becoming a firefighter has allowed me to continue the legacy my family started while giving back to the community I love. One of the most meaningful parts for me is being able to show my niece and nephews what their great Papaw and their grandfather Grumps, did for work and the impact they had on our community. It means so much to me to carry on what they started and give the next generation something to be proud of.”

Thank you, Zoe for all that you do for our community!

🚒 TARS Vehicle Extrication Training 🚒

West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department recently hosted a TARS Vehicle Extrication Class, bringing firefighters together for hands-on training and teamwork.

Members of West Roane County VFD, East Roane County Volunteer Fire Department, and Oakdale Area Fire Dept - TN participated in the class, working together to learn, practice, and strengthen their vehicle extrication skills.

The class went great and gave everyone the opportunity to practice different extrication techniques, become more familiar with tools and equipment, and most importantly, work together as a team.

Training alongside our neighboring departments helps build the communication and teamwork that are critical when we meet on the scene of a real emergency.

A special thanks to Rescue Company Media for some awesome photos and assisting with the class!

🚒 Training Today. Ready Tomorrow.

WRCVFD held a CPR class for our firefighters to ensure our members are trained, certified, and ready to respond when our community needs us most.

A special thank you to Roane County (TN) Office of Emergency Services & Homeland Security for joining us and training alongside our firefighters. Opportunities like this are about more than certifications—they allow our agencies to work together, become familiar with each other’s equipment and procedures, and build stronger working relationships before the next emergency happens.

We appreciate Roane County EMS for taking the time to train with us and for their continued partnership in serving our community.

Train together. Work together. Serve together.

From Street Clothes to Turnout Gear:

Meet Chad Goodman!

Current Position: Assistant Fire Chief

Years in the fire service: 29

When asked why he is a firefighter:
Chad said he was raised around the fire service. His father and his uncle were both firefighters. As a child he heard stories about the fire service. He also spent time around the fire station. It became “a way of life” for him and he followed in his father and uncle’s footsteps. Now, almost 30 in the fire service he says that it is a calling. He says, “I’m lucky to be one of the ‘older’ fireman or as some call it an ‘old dog’”.

Thank you Assistant Chief Goodman for your years in the fire service and for all you do for our community!

A firetruck is just equipment until there’s a crew willing to answer the call.

Every truck in our station represents hours of training, preparation, maintenance, and service from the volunteers who keep it ready.

We’re always looking for more people who want to be part of our team.

You don’t have to know how to fight a fire today. You just have to be willing to learn.

Interested? Send us a message and let’s chat! 🚒

🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET — SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Today, we remember the 2,977 lives lost on September 11th, the families forever changed, and the brave first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away.

We honor the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, military members, and countless civilians who showed extraordinary courage and sacrifice that day.

As firefighters, we carry their memory with us every time we answer the call. Their bravery reminds us why we serve.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸🚒

It’s OK not to be OK. 💚

Whether you wear turnout gear, a badge, a uniform, scrubs, military fatigues—or none of the above—mental health affects all of us.

Firefighters, EMS personnel, dispatchers, law enforcement officers, healthcare workers, military members, veterans, and everyday members of our communities often carry burdens that others never see.

We respond to emergencies. We help strangers. We protect our communities and our country. We take care of our families. We try to be the person others can depend on.

But the people who help everyone else sometimes need help too.

Behind every uniform is a person. Behind every smile may be a struggle. And sometimes the person who appears the strongest is fighting a battle no one else knows about.

We all face demons. We all have difficult days. And none of us should have to fight those battles alone.

As we recognize National Mental Health Awareness Month, remember that asking for help is not weakness. Talking about what you’re going through can be one of the strongest things you ever do.

If you’re struggling, tell someone. Talk to a friend, family member, fellow first responder, coworker, battle buddy, veteran, pastor, counselor, or someone you trust.

If you don’t know where to turn, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7.

And please—check on your people. Not just the ones who look like they’re struggling. Check on the strong ones. Check on the quiet ones. Check on the ones who are always checking on everyone else.

💚 You matter. Your life matters.
💚 Speak up. Reach out.
💚 Stay with us.
💚 You are not alone.

Behind the badge, behind the uniform, and behind the smile—we’re all human.

FROM STREET CLOTHES TO TURNOUTS !

Meet Jessica Nichole Powell

Her position is a firefighter.
Shes been doing this for 3 months.
She was asked why she does it, & her answer was to help people in need when no one else will. It has always been a dream of mine to become a firefighter. I always dreamt of riding in the big red truck since I was a little girl! I want to prove not only to myself, but to the community that its never to late to pursue you're dreams. Dream big and never give up!

Thank you for all your hard work and being part of the family🖤

🚒🔥 WEEKEND MODE: ACTIVATED! 🔥🚒

It’s the weekend, folks! Time to relax, fire up the grill, spend time with family, and make questionable decisions that hopefully don’t involve calling us. 😂

🔥 If you’re grilling, keep an eye on the grill.
🍻 If you’re drinking, don’t drive.
🎆 If something catches fire… maybe don’t try to “put it out with a garden hose” for 20 minutes first. 😂
🚗 And PLEASE buckle up!

Have fun, stay safe, and remember: we’d much rather see you out enjoying your weekend than seeing you pull up to the station with a story that starts with, “Y’all aren’t gonna believe this…” 😂🚒

❤️ From all of us at West Roane Fire Department, have an AWESOME weekend!
