Yesterday, Sgt. Brandon Caires and Officer Hugo Massano took part in Over the Edge at Mohegan Sun, rappelling more than 30 stories down the side of the building in support of Special Olympics Connecticut.

All funds raised from the event directly support Special Olympics Connecticut and the incredible athletes, programs, and competitions held throughout the state.

Events like this are about much more than the rappel. They give our staff an opportunity to connect with Special Olympics athletes, their families, and supporters while helping raise awareness and funds for an organization that means so much to our community and communities across Connecticut.

And we’re not done yet! Keep an eye out for information about our upcoming Tip a Cop event, where you’ll have another opportunity to join us in supporting Special Olympics Connecticut!

🚧 PUBLIC ADVISORY – FOG SEAL ROAD WORK 🚧

The Town of Rocky Hill will begin 2026 fog seal roadway work on Monday, August 31, weather permitting. Work is expected to continue for approximately three days.

Fog sealing is a preventative maintenance process that helps preserve newer pavement and extend the life of our roadways.

📍 Scheduled Roads

Day 1 – Monday, August 31
• Deerfield Run
• Hawthorne Circle
• Stone Brook Crossing
• Wintergreen Lane

Day 2
• Fern Street
• Partridge Drive
• Quail Drive

Day 3
• Pheasant Drive

⚠️ What Residents Should Know:

• Work will generally take place between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
• Please do not park vehicles on the roadway during the work. Contractors should also avoid street parking.
• Individual travel lanes and driveways may be temporarily closed while the fog seal dries. Closures typically last approximately one hour, but may vary depending on weather conditions.
• Detours will be in place, and certified flaggers will assist residents, school buses, trash collection vehicles, and emergency vehicles through the work zones.
• Pavement markings will be repainted following completion of the work.
• Motorists are asked to slow down, use caution, and follow all signs and directions from flaggers while traveling through work zones.

The Town’s contractor, Indus, will be performing the work. Residents may notice their yellow and black work vehicles throughout the affected neighborhoods.

🐾 FOUND DOG – HELP US GET HER HOME! 🐾

The Rocky Hill Police Department is happy to report that a dog who had been seen roaming in the Dinosaur State Park area for approximately one week has been safely located and secured.

With the assistance of Rocky Hill Animal Control Officer Tom Marotto and Carol Ferucci of Dog Gone Recovery, this little girl was successfully apprehended and is now safe and being cared for. We sincerely thank everyone involved for their patience and efforts in bringing her to safety.

Breed currently unknown

We are now asking for the community’s help in finding her owner and getting her back home. If you recognize this dog or have any information regarding her owner, please contact:

Public Statement regarding Concord Drive Incident

First and foremost, the Rocky Hill Police Department would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim during this extremely difficult time.

On Saturday, August 22, at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers of the Rocky Hill Police Department responded to the area of Concord Drive for a report of a female victim suffering from stab wounds.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim and immediately began life-saving measures. She was transported to an area hospital, where, unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries.

The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Michael Ranger, had fled the scene prior to the arrival of police. Through the coordinated efforts of the Rocky Hill Police Department and numerous local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, Ranger was located and taken into custody within 24 hours of the incident.

Ranger was detained by the Saratoga Springs Police Department in upstate New York as a result of a successful License Plate Reader hit. A warrant was subsequently applied for and approved, charging Ranger with Murder and Violation of a Standing Criminal Protective Order.

Ranger remains in custody in New York and is awaiting extradition to Connecticut.

We would like to thank the Saratoga Springs Police Department, Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crimes Unit, as well as all of our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners who assisted with this investigation and the apprehension of the suspect.

We will provide additional information when it is appropriate to do so. At this time, out of respect for the victim's family we will not be releasing additional details.

The Rocky Hill Police Department wants to thank the members of our community for allowing us to participate in their holiday ritual known as Raksha Bandhan.

Raksha Bandhan is a popular Hindu festival that celebrates the loving bond between brothers and sisters. The name translates from Sanskrit as the "bond of protection".

On this day, sisters tie a sacred, decorative thread called a Rakhi around their brothers' wrists, and families praying for long life and well-being while the brothers vow to protect while exchanging sweets and gifts.

ROCKY HILL, CONNECTICUT — The Rocky Hill Police Department announces that Michael Ranger, DOB 07/13/1971, the suspect wanted in connection with the domestic-related homicide on Concord Drive, has been located in upstate New York and taken into custody without incident.
The Rocky Hill Police Department has secured an arrest warrant charging Ranger with C.G.S. § 53a-54a(a), Murder, and C.G.S. § 53a-223a, Violation of a Standing Criminal Protective Order. Ranger is currently being detained in New York. The Rocky Hill Police Department will coordinate with the appropriate New York authorities regarding the transfer of custody and his return to Connecticut.
This arrest is the result of an extraordinary collaborative effort. The Rocky Hill Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to the dedicated Rocky Hill Police Department personnel who worked tirelessly throughout this investigation, as well as the Connecticut State Police and the many law-enforcement partners within Connecticut and beyond our state borders who assisted in locating and safely taking Ranger into custody.
We are also grateful to members of the public who shared information and supported law enforcement efforts. The cooperation, communication, and coordinated response among all involved agencies were instrumental in bringing this search to a safe conclusion and removing the suspect from the street.

The Rocky Hill Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers remain with all those affected by this tragic loss. We hope they find strength, comfort, and support from their family, friends, and the community in the days ahead.EOR
