Today, the Women’s Vet Net hosted an incredibly meaningful ceremony on our Connecticut Veterans Affairs campus. It was a morning that elevated the identities and voices of women who have worn the cloth of our nation, including our current female service members.

Connecticut’s formal recognition of June 12th as Women Veterans Recognition Day demonstrates our state’s commitment to recognizing the courage, sacrifice, and service of women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

We thank everyone for their participation and support in carrying forth the vital role of ensuring the contributions of women veterans are acknowledged and preserved for all future generations.

June 6, 1944, before dawn, thousands of ships crossed the English Channel, aircraft filled the skies and more than 150,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy. The magnitude and scale of D-Day is almost impossible to comprehend, but so is the courage it demanded. On this 82nd anniversary, we remember the men who faced insurmountable odds, knowing history hung in the balance. We honor their determination and legacy for it changed the course of history. Their sacrifice helped secure the freedom of generations to come.

Please join the Women's Vet Net in celebrating Women's Veterans Day next Friday, June 12th. All are welcome!

Thank you to our partners at Connecticut Department of Administrative Services’s and their Equal Employment Opportunity’s Unit for hosting this morning’s seminar in honor of Military Appreciation Month. We were delighted to have one of our Veteran Residents present to sing the National Anthem and were especially moved to hear the keynote address from our esteemed CT Veterans Affairs Board of Trustee member, Dr. Carlita Cotton, who reminded State of CT leadership the importance and value of hiring Veterans.
