This month we recognize Steven Chance.
Steven joined the Franklin County Rescue Squad in January of 1994 at a young age, beginning what would become one of the most meaningful commitments of his life. He earned his EMT certification and held it for about twelve years while actively serving the community. During his first years with the squad, he had the honor of serving as Captain of the Junior Rescue Squad for a couple of years, followed by a term as 2nd Lieutenant on the Senior Squad.
Steven stopped running calls around 2006 but remained deeply connected to the organization as a lifetime member. On July 23rd, 2024, he joined the Board of Directors, continuing his dedication to the squad in a leadership capacity. By August 2025, he was back running calls again—this time as a driver—and in February 2025, he stepped into the role of 2nd Lieutenant. Steven also plans to regain his EMT certification in the near future.
Steven says: Joining the Franklin County Rescue Squad at such an early age kept me grounded, active, and focused on something larger than myself. It taught me valuable life lessons, built lifelong friendships, and helped me understand the true meaning of community service. Helping people through some of their worst moments is one of the most direct ways to live out the commandment of “Love Thy Neighbor,” and it remains a core part of who I am.
Thank you Steven for the years for dedicated service to not only FranklinCounty RescueSquad but the citizens of Franklin County.
